Chicken breast packs, half price @ Tesco (£10 down to £5 etc)

My local Tesco (Braintree) are doing half price packs of chicken breast, the fresh ones. Usually about £10 for 4-5 good size breats, now around £5. Bargain given the recent rise in meat costs.

Were they reduced because of the sell by because I have just got back from Tesco and their meat prices have risen by a ridiculous amount.
They had reduced fresh chicken but it was because they were about to go past their sell by. Almost bought some until we smelt it and it was rancid.

tesco have been selling packs like this for a few weeks now. usually on the end of the chiller cabinet. also selling about 8 pork loin steaks for a fiver. very nice they all are too, especially marinaded in tesco hoi sin and plum sauce  yum yum

Really??
I don't think my local store had those.
Somerfield is doing them for £3 anyway so we stopped off there.

Voted HOT based on good cut price, stock up and bang em in the freezer for casseroles etc

Been a fiver for ages!! Good deal though!

Low quality meat - count me in....NOT

Its actually £5.49 a kilo not £5 a pack as stated in the op...

Got some of these a few days back and 4 skinless and boneless healthy eating chicken breasts cost me £3.89 which is good value...
Also to the other poster Andreah this is not out of date stock its been on offer for a couple of weeks now, and my pack of chicken has until June 6th printed on it..

Great.....lets cram 2000 chickens into a shed so we can flog their meat for a fiver....treat!! Seriously, pay a few quid more and get free range!

* not nearing sell by date, most had almost a week on them

* I shop there every week and this is the first time they have been on offer for a couple of months

*I don't care what type of chicken they are, when you eat as much protien as me this is a good deal, otherwise its stupidly expensive.

YUM

Free range all the way for me the taste quality is 1000 times better than that rancid ****

Just today I made the switch to free-range chicken after I realised I was being a bit hypocritical insisting on free-range eggs but not free-range meat.

Now I have twice the moral high ground!

Where'd I put my soap-box...?

The taste of free range is far scrummier than battery-I couldn't ever go back to factory farmed chicken.
It breaks my heart to imagine their miserable short existence................
