I am not sure 'traveler' or 'community' are worlds that really apply to a lot of them any more (I am sure some of them are OK).

Just a warning about keeping chickens,food is pricey,they stink(pen) after a while,and they attract rats.Enjoy X)
Looking at keeping chickens, what do you do with them in the winter or when go on holiday? Just eat them?

Could say the same about Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, gerbils or any caged animal. Cats bring in dead animals and spray up things, dogs urinate and poo poo. Every animal has its negative points, but lets think about the positive ones. At least you get something back from Chickens, ie Eggs and could always make your own bargain bucket.
Yeh chickens are great as long as you and the chickens have enough room but if your gardens smallish the novelty soon wears off.
The garden is big enough, all grassed, how often do you keep them out of the coup? Do they poo all over the garden? What do you do with them in the winter and when going on holiday?
i recently got my 4th set of chickens, the fox got all other 12 in batches, and we get our next door neighbour to pop in, fill up the feeder and water, and let them roam in the garden for the day, then put them in at night, i normally leave the coop door open all day for them to go in and out as they please, and we got out 3 chickens at the moment for £5 for all of them. in the winter they still just go around the garden, if you can section of a bit of your garden and put the coop inside it and built a run around it, it makes the chickens a lot happier, and if they are happier they lay more often, were currently getting 3 a day every day, and our breed dont stop laying all year, the money you pay out in provisions for them, you probs break even with the saving on eggs, and as "hooray henry" said, the food isnt expensive, it isnt cheap either, its inbetween, also they get rid of ants and spiders nests in your garden, sorry about the whole essay thing
