You might want to edit the title to give a clue as to what the deal refers to.

This is a bargain for anyone wanting repeat visits.

(pays for itself in 3 or 4 visits)

And it's really a very good place - modern, conservation minded, well run .... I could go on!

If you live there, and have kids, go for it!

nice deal, dont think our membership is due

Chester zoo is best.

Well they have to pay the Chinese a lot of money for their pandas.

.........................

Pregnant pause ....

Free entry once a year to Chester zoo as well as various others including the highland wildlife park

Chester zoo is best.

Maybe. maybe not but is 200 miles from Edinburgh so not exactly a direct comparison

Chester zoo is best.

Bronx Zoo is better than Chester Zoo. Your point being? Chester Zoo as somebody has pointed out is 200 miles from this deal. No matter if Chester Zoo is better (which is debatable - It has no Koalas, no Pandas, etc.. )

As for the deal itself, in recent times, Edinburgh zoo has been poor but this was due to the place needing refurbished which has now happened.

The point is Chester zoo is the best of UK. Edinburgh zoo is too small. Rather than visiting Edinburgh zoo 4-5 times in a year, it is better to use that money to visit Chester zoo one time.

Chester zoo has Red Panda. No Crocodile however.

You seem to be mistakiing opinion for fact.
Have you visited ALL the zoos in the UK? I'll bet you haven't
Have you even visited Edinburgh Zoo?

I have visited both, and many others; they are BOTH fine zoos in different ways, and I can't think of any aspects that could objectively justify your claims.

My favourite zoos are John Aspinalls, in East Kent - others may prefer Bristol or even London. Twyford is good and getting better ...

But to insist that any one is 'Best' does no favours to anyone.

This is a great deal. I had a membership many years ago and loved it. I didn't live far at the time so would often take me and my camera to the zoo. Every day is different

Edinburgh zoo is too small

Yeah, it might be small being 82 acres but do remember what they say about size... its what you do with it that counts! Edinburgh zoo has made the most of the space (which is limited, after all, being in a city centre) of which, you need to remember that the zoo back in the day (It's 100 years old!) yet it still houses the only pandas in the UK, and for a time, the only polar bear so the zoo does have some unique features.

The zoo has been upgraded and has been completed this year. Have you been since the upgrades? Have you seen the new reptile house, etc...? If you have not been since 2012 then you might want to hold back from comment. Likewise, I would not comment about Twyford as I have never been, but I heard it's a nice zoo.

Remember though, this is not whether Chester Zoo is better than Edinburgh Zoo, it's about whether the deal is a good deal, and for parents with children, this IS a good deal!

You don't need to visit all the zoo to know which is the best. maybe you need to visit a few of the top rated zoo. For example, you don't need to visit all the cities in the UK to know London has the most traffic.
I visited Edinburgh (2012) but took the zoo off my schedule because I read the animals were kept in tiny spaces and not being taken care of properly.
London zoo is hardly a zoo, it's more like some cages placed in Regent's park.

maybe it's better now with the upgrades. but I don't think the animals can be kept in conditions like their natural habitats in such a small space.
I never said it is NOT a good deal. All I said is there could be better experience with zoos for the same money. But I guess it depends on someone's perspective.

The fact remains, it is ridiculous (and a little sad) to claim that any one zoo is "the best" when you mean "my favourite"

What is a 'top rated' zoo?
Zoos aren't like London's traffic; it's not a simple matter of counting the animals (or even measuring the emclosures). There is no onevobjective way of deciding.

Sure, on some measures, Chester scores well - and it's a fine zoo, in my view. But if you want to claim it's The Best, then offer some evidence.

And you gave one which was 200 miles away. Nice and handy for a family wanting a day out, I do not think so!

So in other words there is no best zoo in the world according to you? A zoo should be considered very good if it has large number of animal of different species, the exhibits are large, the animals are kept in very good condition, provides good facility for the visitors etc. Edinburgh zoo is small so it misses one of the main criteria to be considered a very good zoo.

I wasn't thinking about family actually. You are right, for a family it is rather a good deal.

Sad news

We had Family Annual Pass for several years when the kids were young. It was an amazing deal. Kids loved it - we could go as often as we wanted - lots of extra perks too for being members. Free access to many zoos round UK including Chester Zoo.

This is a No Brainer if you live near Edinburgh and have kids.

And Edinburgh Zoo does have very active breeding programmes and Animal Welfare programmes doing in conjunction with University of Edinburgh "Dick" Vet School. So I think best to stop any criticism of this deal.
