Product Description:

Winner of the 30th anniversary Arthur C. Clarke Award for Best Novel.

Adrian Tchaikovksy’s critically acclaimed novel Children of Time, is the epic story of humanity’s battle for survival on a terraformed planet.

Who will inherit this new Earth? The last remnants of the human race left a dying Earth, desperate to find a new home among the stars. Following in the footsteps of their ancestors, they discover the greatest treasure of the past age – a world terraformed and prepared for human life.

But all is not right in this new Eden. In the long years since the planet was abandoned, the work of its architects has borne disastrous fruit. The planet is not waiting for them, pristine and unoccupied. New masters have turned it from a refuge into mankind’s worst nightmare.

Now two civilizations are on a collision course, both testing the boundaries of what they will do to survive. As the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, who are the true heirs of this new Earth?

‘Children of Time is a joy from start to finish. Entertaining, smart, surprising and unexpectedly human.’ - Patrick Ness, author of A Monster Calls.

Reviews:

‘This is superior stuff, tackling big themes – gods, messiahs, artificial intelligence, alienness – with brio.’ — Financial Times

‘... a joy from start to finish. Entertaining, smart, surprising and unexpectedly human.’ — Patrick Ness

‘Brilliant science fiction and far out world building.’ — James McAvoy

The audiobook is on Audible's current 2-for-the-price-of-one offer, but if you only want this then buy the Kindle edition first and you should be able to get the audiobook for around £3.50 or so.
This was a decent read but nowhere near “must read” as it was hyped at a time. Couple of great new ideas which eventually gets dragged down to typical sci-fi drama tropes. I guess this is discounted to drive up sell of second book in the series. Having said that you can do far worse with your 0.99p.
Yeah I didn't think it was that good. Pretty mediocre really. Tchaikovsky seems to really enjoy writing about technologically advanced animals, so a lot of this story is told from the view of a spider…
One of the best audiobooks I purchased in the last couple of years, brilliant to be able to get the written version for £1!
recently listened to the audiobook and didn't really rate it. Will give the kindle a go
Is a good read but at the same time quite difficult - you get into it more you read. There is a sequel if anyone was unaware

My only advice to people is to read this book with the knowledge that there is a sequel. I was disappointed when I read it as it doesn't naturally come to a close. However, after around a year of testing other books I really want to know what happens next. I gave this a 3/5 initially and on reflection would probably rate it 4.5 as it's a wonderfully interesting world with great characters. I'm looking to get the second book in the next few months.
