Picked up the duck today it's the 'Gressingham' duck with 12 pancakes, bargain for £3. Had a look at the sweet chilli chicken and it looked like birds eye chicken dippers with a tiny pot of sauce lol would rather make my own!

i got this last week its not much cop

Arg. Why does every meal deal like this have to have egg fried rice. Why not just one alternative. Even plain white rice is an improvement

My dogs wouldn't even eat this banquet LoL None of it tastes like a proper chinese.

If you would pay £16 full price wouldn't you go to a real chinese takeaway and get them to do
it properly ??

Chinese resturants don't taste like proper chinese food either.

Do you have to buy it all to get it for the £8, or can you just choose which bits you want and pay for them individually?

The duck is better than most supermarkets as its been roasted in the oven at a hot temperature to get the aroma and flavour out and all you're doing is heating it and making sure its fully cooked. Most of the other supermarket brands, the duck is less well done and less brown and not so nice. At £3 its a bargain!!!

It depends where you come from. These days a lot of Chinese Takeaways take a lot of short cuts and finding a decent one is difficult.

With regards to authenticity, like many other foods that have migrated from other countries, the use of some ingredients which are different (but not necessarily worse) will cause deviation from eating it back in from the original country.

However, its all good stuff. With Chinese food (the stuff that westerners like a lot) its mainly deep fried and wok fried stuff. Therefore unlike Indian food, such as curries which are well suited to stewing and being jarred, a lot of the Chinese food deteriorates whilst in transit from the takeaway to your home and the supermarket stuff isn't quite the same. So there is a bigger difference when you visit a restaurant because of this.

You can buy them seperately, the duck is £3.00, rice 50p etc. All stated in the description at the top of the page. The £8 just comes about when you buy the lot.

Supermarket Chinese food also lacks wok hei.

Just from experience with the sides always being egg rice. Asda and Tesco only offer egg fried rice as a side. I would buy the meals without but at the price VS with the rice it just doesn't seem worth it.

looks good

Not really , they are much alike as being processed fast food with little thought on taste .

I thought exactly the same about the sweet chilli chicken, the duck was fab, Sainsburys and Asda are both doing the whole duck for around £8 (1.2kg), Morrisons duck 570g so roughly the same price.
