If you want a genuinely good watch for around a grand get something like an Oris Aquis. If you want a watch to impress your mates (who know nothing about watches) then get this.

Good price for an entry level F1 model, shame it’s only a Quartz movement though. Would be very reluctant to pay almost £1k for watch that doesn’t have a mechanical movement.

Even though I'm not a big fan of tags, one thing you could say is that you'd never need to pay for servicing, as a battery change is no bother for even a newbie.

And to be fair. These f1's don't lose too much value, definitely get one used for 500-700 on eBay but still.

My automatic tag had no end of problems with the movement. Tag replaced the internals under warranty and I am scared to touch it now

I have no idea but I agree. What a great looking timepiece. Also waterproof to 500m/50bar!
I have a Tag and an omega seamaster...tag easy maintenance the omega 300 pounds for a service.. that said my day to day watch is a cwc g10...you simply cant beat the cwc for reliability after all the british army cant be wrong.

I prefer the look of this one thanks. Is it not a wonderful world where we can all have different taste.

There are some fabulous and expensive quartz movements out there. Grand Seiko 9f or Breitling Superquartz will give accuracy within a few seconds per year, not day. This on the other hand is a pretty ordinary movement, but then the watch is roughly a third to a fifth of the price of the ones I mentioned.

If you like the aesthetic of this then I'd recommend the Certina DS Action Automatic. Or if you want to spend a lot of money on a quartz, at least make it a Chronometer certified one, for vastly less. Or if you like the Tag brand because reasons then fill your boots!

If it's accuracy on a budget then it's a Bulova UHF you want.
I've Owned a quartz Tag and it's nice! Great build quality! But nothing I haven't seen in a Victorinox or Certina less than half the price.
Bit of a willy waggler watch
I've always wanted a Tag Monaco or Silverstone though, just because they look different

They are ugly watches you might need spec saver, the cosc certificate is a plus. Do oris have cosc certificates?

The the problem with mechanical watches is you either have to wear them every 2nd to 3rd day of put them in watch winders.. it’s one things what annoys me having to set day/date and then wind them up. I like my citizen watch which was a 10th of the price but eco drive charges my daylight..
41002164-Mey29.jpgOr save about £850 and get a watch from our friends in China 😄

It’d probably fog up in some light rain/humidity

To be fair they are alot better than you would imagine. Does make you question where the other £850 goes.
Advertising and Celeb endorsements I'd say rather than anything ground breaking in the watch

At the bottom end of my collection I've got a Pagani Design with a screw down crown, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, solid end links, exhibition caseback and Seiko NH35 movement, all for £50. It hasn't missed a beat, and has survived multiple dunks in the little'uns bath at bathtime! The perfect beater watch.

I have a Tudor BB58 as my beater watch just because I bought it and I want to enjoy it even if it gets scratched and scuffed. I was looking at Orient as a secondary dive watch any thoughts?

Can’t complain for £50, what watches do you own in your collection?
the way you talked about the oris I thought that was your beater watch, that’s why I put the tag up. With the discount £900 isn’t bad for a beater watch.

The name, heritage, build quality is what the £850 gets you.. to me if I can’t afford an original I don’t get the item. I won’t buy a fake I do with out, I know people who spend hundreds on a decent looking fake. But the only people there fooling is themselves... that’s not just watches but everything

No, you've gone on a bit of a rant.
It's not a FAKE it's a homage and until you've held one and taken one apart ect you can't appreciate the quality in most parts what your getting for £50.
My point was a bog standard quartz entry level Tag - why is it £1k?
£50 Movement
What, £900 to make a case and strap when other quality manufacturers can do it for £100.
Does paying for the name mean your shallow and a sheep?
Yes brand history, but so has Rotary Accurist and they produce quality built watches for pennies compared!
Look at the Swatch group:
They make lots of watches, one of the brand's under the umbrella is Calvin Klein, the Infinite watch is basically a Tissot with a ETA 2824 movement which is used in watches costing thousands by some brands.
They priced the watch at about £700 and you know what! It's worth it, the build quality and that movement etc but they can't shift them watches for £700 because people don't associate CK with decent watches, it's a fashion brand right! No heritage!
So they are available for £200-£300 which means your getting a Swiss Made watch which is basically a Tissot for £200 with a movement found in Tudor watches!
So all that extra money is just for the name and the advertising and endorsements.
What does that do for you?
Think about it....
