Just a gentle reminder to everyone:Chlorhexadine is a combination of chemicals with a ratio of one part Chloride and six of iodine, while this combination is generally safe for human consumption in moderation, if you drink too much it can affect your sense of taste and perspective, making eating and assessing social situations both difficult and dangerous in equal amounts. Heat added.

Small bottles this at Poundland if you don't want to wait.

this is mouth wash though.

if people "drink it" then maybe they shouldnt be allowed to clean their teeth on their own

I used this couple years back and it's made my teeth brown. went dentist on next check up and asked her and she said it stains teeth.

I even use electric toothbrush (oralb) 3 times a day and it was a while after I stopped using it that the colour went back to white.

This is permanently £1.79 at B&M so, if it is easier for you to buy it in a shop, then you might prefer it to this deal. If you are lucky, you might even get it a bit cheaper if they happen to have it on offer. I got it for £1.49 a couple of months back.

Don't over-use it though as it does discolour your teeth if you use it for too long or too often.

the mention of discolouring teeth is interesting.

on a recent check up my dentist suggested i started using corsodyl and since then ive noticed a browning of my teeth, especially the gum line but i never put it down to my mouthwash i assumed it was due to the amount of diet coke i drink

The brown stains will come off with a scale and polish

Remember to leave a decent gap between using this and brushing your teeth, preferably use it at a completely different time of day as the toothpaste and active ingredient can react, and thus stop it working.

for clarity, I work for the company who make the premium alternative (Corsodyl) and this does indeed stain your teeth after 4 weeks.

This is a MEDICATED product and should only be used when you have gum disease and bleeding gums. Only use for a maximum of 4 weeks and if your gums still continue to have a problem, please visit a dentist.

Premium, maybe only in price, it's exactly the same

I believe this doesn't stain your teeth itself, but some food/drink can stain your teeth if using it, i.e tea and coffee

Nasty stuff. Used to get over a Dental operation. Disgusting brown teeth took months to rectify. Nothing beats a warm salt water mouthwash. Stay clear unless you particularly like looking like one of the Munsters.

Yeh, used in swabbing areas on ski before surgery I think?

Yeh, clever clogs. I don't care what YOU believe. But it does stain your teeth.
The brownish discoloration of teeth and tongue is due to the disintegration of bacterialmembranes, leading to the denaturation of bacterial proteins.[11] At the same time, disulfide functions are reduced to thiol functions[12] that form dark complexes with iron(III) ions found in saliva.[13]

Agree, it's similar stuff, but this type of product was invented bythe company who own corsodyl and it certainly stains your teeth.

I've never used this brand, but the invention of corsodyl has also helped prevent millions of new born deaths by using chlorhexidine to clean the umbilical chord. The WHO has recently put this as a treatment in under developed countries as it's cheap and cost effective.

I'm no dental expert, your welcome to use this as often as you wish, I'm just trying to help the HUKD community in stating this should not be used unless needed. I feel as a worker for the company who invented this product, I have an obligation to inform those who may use it.

Calls me clever clogs and attaches quotes clearly nabbed from wikipedia, you do know anyone can edit that right?

I might edit it now and state that it's caused by aliens colouring your teeth whilst you're asleep, p.s it may or may not be accurate, but don't quite wikipedia as fact, it's been proven to be completely wrong before

Gingivitis - always makes me think of people having allergies to ginger people not people with breath like dog **** lol

I bought Corsodyl today from boots - £5 each or 3 for 10. I get mouth ulcers and find it useful for getting rid of them quicker. This one's good value but use it sparingly - it's not an everyday mouthwash - only for when you've got infections in your mouth.

I use both the premium and the non premium brands - with excessive use I was warned by my Dentist it will stain teeth, however I have been fine with using twice a week whilst not cleaning teeth with toothpaste at the same time as they do not work together. These products and the hygienist have been the best advice from my dentist in 50 years and my gums/ teeth have improve with each visit to the dentist. - I always walk away with a gold star and a lolly !!!

Chlorhexadine does stain your teeth. I was on Chlorhexadine mouth wash for about a year, I had to use it 3 times a day while I had a bone marrow failure. My teeth like looked like smokers teeth. The good news is that it does come off eventually. I still have staining in between the teeth which I need to get a dentist to clean

This or retardex/ultradex?

This stuff saved me after a dry socket that required 3 hospital visits; on the other hand - it's not designed to be used every day long term? Use it for 2-3 weeks / 1 month to get rid of germs and then go back to normal mouthwash. Then after 12 months or so do another month course.
