Various Autobiographies in poundland at the moment including this one from Chris Evans which seems to have great reviews on Amazon along with and £11.70 pricetag!

"The story of how one council estate lad made good, really very good, and survived -- just about -- to tell the tale! 'I see this book as an account of boy who climbed a glorious mountain and then dug himself a huge black valley for no good reason other than he didn't know what else to do.' Chris Evans Chris Evans' extraordinary career has seen him become one of this country's most successful broadcasters and producers. From his early years on Manchester's Piccadilly radio to Don't Forget Your Toothbrush, The Big Breakfast and TFI Friday for Channel 4, Chris changed the TV landscape during the '90s and on BBC Radio 1's Breakfast show and as owner of Virgin Radio, ushered in the age of the celebrity DJ. His relentless pursuit of success and subversive style were his trademarks. But then 'the Chris Evans show' and Chris Evans' life became frighteningly blurred at the edges. The more outlandish the antics whether on or off screen or air, the better, for a while at least. The celebrity girlfriends, nights out drinking. Rolling into work late with 7m listeners waiting. For someone who took such pride in his work, what had happened? The country loved him so why wasn't he happy? Chris Evans' autobiography is a funny and frank story of how a boy from a Warrington council estate who started work at 13 and held down 20 different jobs by the time he left school; became the most widely acclaimed broadcaster of his generation. From the early death of his father that literally set him to work, to his meteoric rise in TV and radio, he will talk openly about the highs and lows of his, at times, turbulent career and how his drive to succeed impacted his personal life. This will be a fascinating and surprising life story from one of Britain's brightest and boldest personalities."

The reviews for the book are all very positive actually

I'm not a big Chris Evans fan myself but considering said good reviews, at the cost of £1 for a read (and then for it to be donated to a charity shop) it's worth a shot.

Cold. Too dear (_;)

HOT, great book great price

He certainly doesn't have many people sitting on the fence about him. Not sure he's my cup of tea, but then I read Gazza's book and that at least gave me some idea of why he behaved the way he did, worth a quid!

i'm not his greatest fan but after receiving this book as a present found it a very good read..so much so i bought part 2 which was out before christmas...recommended

Totally agree.....he's an odious little man.

Isn't this guy a knob?

this guy is a ****

He's the coolest thing on Radio 2

(yes, that was sarcastic....)

I had this bought for me and I was a little disappointed as I disliked the bloke with a passion.......however, when I read it, I changed my mind totally.
It's a damn good read and, as the title suggest, it's not what you think.

Hot from me, excellent read and great price.

Excellent read, it's so easy to judge a person by their public persona as portrayed by the media. Read the book and then form your own opinions (and ask yourself what you would have done in his situaiton). I enjoyed it so much that I had part 2 on my Christmas list this year.

God, the usual tedious comments whenever an autobiography is posted. What on earth does posting 'annoying little man' or similar add to the thread? If folk have such a dislike of someone why even look at the deal?

Good price

hot from me, picked this up yesterday and was gonna post it, but forgot..

The book is actually "not what you'd think" - very interesting story of how he went from school kid to the stage of him buying Virgin Radio. Yes he's a bit of a **** - but the story is interesting and an insight into how you get into radio/tv and how it effects people.

Well worth a read - especially at this price!

I prefer triple velvet.

WELL SAID!

I would be open to read this and with this good price why not

Chris Evans is not a "little" man - he's quite tall.

To all who dislike Chris Evans, whats that got to do with whether this is the cheapest you can buy this book for?

Exactly. Why open a thread with Chris Evans in the title and then make a post if you don't even like him...

It's FUN

Evans is a supporter of the Labour Party, however he donated £100,000 to Ken Livingstone's Mayoral campaign as an independent in 2000

I find I dislike him even more
Edited by: "Geemac" 9th Jan 2011

"In his autobiography, Evans writes that shortly after the sale of Virgin Radio he was offered £56m for his SMG shares by Goldman Sachs. He declined the offer and eventually sold them for £250,000".

That saved you a pound and made you feel better, £250k, wouldn't get out of bed for it.

By his own admission he's about as likeable as erm .. Famous and Fearless .. possibly the worst show ever shown on Channel 4 and the biggest oxymoron-based title possible!
If that guy was just a tenth as clever as he thinks he is .. he would be a very, very clever man indeed!

I like him - but even he admits he got big headed - but before that phase he did change radio and television in the 90's -especially Breakfast TV - if anyone saw the Big breakfast then you know what I mean, brilliant show.
He was far from boring - even after ten years after his peak he is still remembered - more good then bad.

The book is a good read and well worth a £1.

He was a clever man but as you get older those creative juices get stagnant and try to please the masses. I do watch the show but only to gawk at Jenny Frost

Really good book, highly recommended! Looking forward to the next one in Paperback

Now he's just a bored millionaire and thought "I know a few more bored millionaire's sons and daughters who might fancy doing a bit of telly work .. y'know.. riding pushbikes .. skateboards ... rolling a car onto its roof at ten mph whilst strapped into a cage and wearin' a crash helmet an' that ... and then calling it 'extreme stunts' an' that ... the British public love me and anything I do ...and we can pad it out with pointless pre and post event interviews and multi re runs of different camera angles an' that .. pass me the phone .. Channel 4 will knight me for this ...." .... and did you know ...they really did think it was a second Big Breakfast .. but in reality .... ended up a dog's dinner ... or suchlike :-) Possibly ...He was a clever man but as you get older those creative juices get stagnant and try to please the masses. Why would you even read it in the first place if you dislike the bloke with a passion?

He's certainly not my cup of tea, But certainly a good buy for a quid if you like him.

Why would anyone want to read the autobiography of an idiot? Did you see him on the xmas edition of who wants to be a millionaire?!
