I don't think anyone is doing the Standard chromecast for less than £30 so if you can use more than 1 this is a good deal.

I'm sure most people know what one is by now but just in case:
"Chromecast is a media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. Simply use your mobile device and the TV you already own to cast your favourite TV shows, films, music, sports, games and more. Chromecast works with iPhone®, iPad®, Android phone or tablet, Mac®, Windows® laptop or Chromebook."

Currys were doing 1 Chromecast and 1 Chromecast Audio for $49 recently but this is the best I can see on the Standard version. and given that there is still £20 playstore credit on each one this is like £5 each. In case anyone is wondering according to the playstore terms you can apply more than one promotional balance to an account:

If you redeem more than one promotional balance into your Google Play account:
a) GCL will add the value of your prior balance to any promotional balance that is redeemed later; and
b) the latest expiry date of your redeemed balances will apply to your total balance.

FYI the same offer is available on the Playstore as well with free delivery if you cannot get to an Argos

Receive £5 Argos voucher for spending £50 between 4th - 8th December.

2 for £40 in currys the other day.. might have been a black friday deal.
Definitely going to upgrade mine now it supports 5g wifi. No more buffering or unwatchable streams hopefully!!
I only want one
This is a really stupid question, what do people actually use these for streaming from their phones in the real world? Can you stream anything on your phone? Been trying to justify purchasing one having already got an Amazon fire stick etc.

Plus Currys is free delivery if you're not heading to a store.
Anyone who's got the old Chromecast, I very much recommend upgrading, this piece of kit has no lag anymore and its just a great to use.

So give me the other one
I've literally just started looking into how to make my tv a smart and here we are.

My question is, say I'm streaming a video on YouTube from my phone, does the phones screen have to be on at the same time? Can I get chromecast to play stuff and just leave my phone down/do other stuff with it.

Thanks
I've set my delorean to November 27th 2015 if anyone fancies jumping in to get that X2 for 40 black Friday deal ha ha X)....oh wait.

heat from me
EdenRed gives me 7% off gift cards so for £46.50 nabbed two (for currys and argos) went for the curry's option due to free delivery and the fact the cards digital and can be applied at checkout.

Yes you can select a video to play on your phone and the chrome cast will open the you tube app playing leaving you to do other thingd. Or you can mirror your phone or laptop

I do Netflix, stream from my NAS drive etc.

In general, you can do anything you want on your phone once you've launched the app and start streaming. Come to it, with stuff like Netflix you can even power off your phone.

if it is on your phone, laptop or tablet then you can stream/mirror it to your TV through the chromecast. you can't actually load anything onto a chromecast

+ 1. :-)
Ok may sound stupid but does this basicly make your TV wifi, as I connect my phone to tv with imediashare to play videos from phone, and my kids manage to put YouTube on the TV from there tablets which is annoying, does this do any more than that.

Good idea! That way it makes them only £22.50 each, and cheaper than the Wuaki deal last month! Still, you have to buy two... (_;)
For those with chrome cast 1.0 I recommend instead getting the chrome cast Ethernet adaptor which is now available in UK
No mention of the free google play credit on the Argos web site

I don't think there's any support for Chromecast with the Amazon Prime Video app, still, so would have to try to mirror screen if your phone supports that or cast a Chrome tab via PC /laptop. Neither of which were not smooth when I tried some time ago (now have Fire Stick so no need).

space. power. consumption. mobility. appearance. time - these are often valid but weak justifications. In other words people are lazy, superficially materialistic, money-throwing, slaves to consumerism. myself included
how do we get the £20 credit on our accounts?
nice, reserved at argos
can you use the credit for apps etc as it says £20 movie credit:

£20 movie credit when you buy a Chromecast. UK residents only. Valid for Chromecasts purchased and set-up between 15.11.15 and 15.1.16. Terms apply.
