What is Chromecast Audio?

Chromecast Audio is a small device that plugs into your speakers for streaming music over Wi-Fi. Once set up, simply use your iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows laptop or Chromebook to cast your favourite music, radio stations and podcasts to any speakers in the house.

Title needs altering to chromecast audio.

Good grief! How many of these did they buy!?!? Got one for £15 yesterday but I must have another amp somewhere that would benefit from one of these...

Not even opened the one I purchased the other day, now reserved another, I must be crazy

Glad that I did not have the time to collect the reservations I made twice. I reserved again at the lower price

I wonder how many have recently appeared on ebay?

Next would be start the price match option in Argos, Amazon etc

Am I correct that these gizmo's will stream Spotify Premium but not the Spotify Free music?

Ordered. seriously don't know why but I feel abit left out X)

I forgot to collect mine yesterday, luckily! Whole shiny extra £1 coming my way! FYI - I bought one from Argos for £30, messaged them and asked if I could return using an 'e-receipt', their customer service was disgusting! Wasn't going to bother returning it, but due to this woman's awful tone and behaviour, I'll be returning this back to Argos, for my full £30 refund, and be taking my business to Currys instead!

Wow
I bought one of these
These dont have optical on them just to let you now guys

Still worth it though

oh.. in the description says it does
Audio output 3.5 mm jack with analogue and optical digital audio output

yes, I have both audio & TV casts. Stopped using audio but cast music to TV, can cast free Spotify if cast full screen from laptop (ie you can circumvent the issue)

No mods about today?

Bought one last night before store closing, and yes it does have optical on them. If you were expecting the usual toslink port though they have not...try powering one up without anything connected to the 3.5mm port you will see the red light shining through.

Currys price match within 7 days any store right? Should be able to go back and get a quid off....mine is local, nothing to lose.

For optical output you need to purchase a Mini-TOSLINK-to-TOSLINK (optical) cable as per the Google site - support.google.com/chr…-GB

Yes it does. You will need a mini toslink for the 3.5mm jack.

I hate this site... First you made me feel I needed to buy something that I didn't, then you show me it again a day later, a pound cheaper oO

Got mine yesterday and love it. Heat OP! This is an absolute steal at 14 notes, what are you all waiting for?!

I believe it does have optical. You use the same output port with a mini-toslink to toslink cable instead of the yellow cable supplied.
Picking my 2 up later :0)
Cheers.

Took the plunge at £14 Inc free p&p with a tiny bit of cash back. Presumably this has a longer range than bluetooth devices.

Lose your time for £1 not to mention fuel or bus/train fare etc. Bought mine yesterday for 15 and I'm happy with paying £1 more than today but know that I've already saved £15.

reserved at my local store. cheers for the heads up. heat added.

It's not wi-fi direct. The limit on range is up to your router!

What's the DAC like in these? I've got a squeezebox classic currently that's on borrowed time. Looking to replace at some point.

Thanks for the Clarification. I do the same as you and send it through the Chromecast TV stick to the HiFi. I was just wondering if I could use the Audio version in a speaker upstairs. Shame about the Spotify free not being supported though. It took a while for it to be supported on the TV version so it might be in the development stage still. Fingers crossed they sort it.

Are these £14 instore or do you have to book online?

See archimago.blogspot.co.uk/201…tml for some related information.

FYI, there is also a squeezebox server / LMS plugin to make these behave as squeezebox devices

It is the principle of the matter, we have to venture out anyway, it's a mile or so away (car) and close to supermarkets we use so going to.

Ok never used one of these, genuine question what are the advantages of using one of these ? Couldn't you just plug your phone in anyway using an aux cable?
