OMG, Maplin are closing down???

Yeah they are going for the world record amount of time to close down a business. So far sports directs "closing down" sales are just slightly ahead.
I still think they're too much. The first one came out 5 years ago for £35 and it's still about the same price with almost no changes, not many tech things hold on to the same price like that. In 5 years I would have thought these would be almost the price of the old ones, so about £40, and the price of the standard one to drop to £25(which it oftenly does in deals). £70 for a chromecast just seems insane. Even if £50 was the normal price it wouldn't be too bad since it'll at least then drop to £35-40 in deals.
Unless you’re desperate I would hang fire. Google have a new chromecast coming “soon” that runs android tv os orio 8.0with 4K, hdr and voice support.

Here's what I found.
Maplins sale make them roughly normal price everywhere else.. overpriced shop that's always empty in my town.
Thanks
Can you sideload apps on this, like you can on the Fire stick? A friend wants to know!

No. In fact without a computer or phone there's nothing you can do with a chromecast. Not that that's a bad thing mind, remotes are unwieldy in my opinion but phones and computers have had years to master complex interfaces.

The ultra comes complete with the wired Ethernet adapter I believe, making this roughly the same price as the standard chromecast + adapter (£15) so its definitely a good deal if you need a wired chromecast

About time, fed up with this one over heating
price good

product rubbish
Interesting to visit a Maplins and browse around but expensive for what is cheap items from China .
More people out of a job probably caused by poor management .
In case you didn't know, this can only be powered by mains adaptor - so you need a big ugly black power cable going into the back of your TV, attached to a massive ugly power block.

and even then, 4k signal transfer is sketchy at best

It's a new Nexus Player essentially. (The new version going through FCC testing, not the Chromecast Ultra.)

Thanks. I had a look round myself. That looks interesting. Google are "due" to update the Chromecast. Whatever happens, it'll be worth waiting until I/O To find out.

Is your TV powered wirelessly? Got wireless HDMI set up for every device? My TV's a rat's nest anyway

I believe the reputable android websites stated that device wasn't made by Google at all,so Chromecast is not getting an update in my honest opioion.

With grammar errors in the manual, the navigation buttons are from KitKat, and the overflow menu button hasn't been in Android for 6+ year, this isn't an actual legit Google product.

Can someone please tell me how do I cancel a click and collect deal from Maplin.

I ordered a RJ11 cable now I don’t want it

Yep, it was announced on the same day as Toys 'R' Us went into administration. I am more concerned about high street retailers and the impact shop closures have on the local communities though. The combination of changing shopping habits as more and more people choose to shop online, soaring rents, high business tax rates, parking charges, five years of continuously falling Christmas sales etc means many stores are struggling to make a profit these days. If the trend continues without any help from the government to help level the playing field, many high streets will just be rows of closed, empty shops.

I sideloaded google movies app, Google mail and the Phillips hue app onto my firestick. Any tips for a Bluetooth controller as the apps don’t work perfectly with the remote! I can turn lights on and off. Investigating if I can get motion sensor notifications - the nearest I got was writing a JavaScript page to query the hub and access through Firefox app.
