No insurance company in the world would choose to pay out a claim from their own pocket if there was any way they could recover it from the other party, so I'm guessing either your evidence was inconclusive or you were actually partially to blame.

sure, it's in the post for me as well

as long as you got the email to choose your gift, there's no problem as they do state it'll take a while

if the email went to junk or you didn't get it, the details of how to claim your £75 are on the other thread

or the legal fees to defend it would cost too much so they settled 50/50 and both policy holders foot the bill

Churchill use an in-house legal team, keeping costs down. They also can't legally refuse to pursue a claim based on legal costs due to FCA requirements. Legal fees would also be recovered from the other party, and if they had dash-cam footage to support their claim then it'd be a pretty easy recovery if it was genuinely non-fault.

The policy holder would foot the excess, and have to pay a slight increase in premium for three years, but the insurance company would come out worse off.

so can we just sign up and cancel once we receive the gift card? How easy it is to cancel?
I am existing churchill customer anything for me??
I cancelled the sunlife policy by cancelling the direct debit, a few letters received from them saying will cancel then that was it.

Just waiting on the direct line gift card too then cancel the direct debit

Thanks. Does it carry out a credit search?
No, its not credit. Not sure if they done an identity check but even if they did it would not interfere with your credit histo

yep it's as easy as cancelling the direct debit

their T&Cs actually make this pretty clear as well, they talk about missing a monthly payment will cause your policy to be cancelled

which is pretty reassuring as some of these companies sort of hide the fact you're actually signing up for a finance deal (loan) & they are a pain in the backside to cancel
Thanks

This is very common, dash cams gave a habit of working against you
Presume they carry out credit checks etc? I have never done these so just wondering if they are way too much hassle to even bother?

Thanks Chanchi for putting it all together, fab as always

If you get them to cancel the policy by stopping the direct debit, rather than just phoning them to ask them to cancel it, then they (and other companies under their umbrella) will not insure you on any of their other products as they deem you a bad payer. If you want to cancel, just call and tell them.
Both the Churchill and Direct Line policies "introduce" you to Legal and General and mention L & G as the promoter.

About 2 months ago I posted a similar deal for Legal and General (directly). As such I wonder if this will affect the Churchill and Direct Line ones and getting additional gift cards, if you've already done the £75 gift card through L & G already?
So if I sign up to Churchill for the minimum £6pm, after 3 months I’ll get the gift card then I can just cancel? There won’t be any charges?

With Churchill (or their affiliated companies like Direct Line / Privilege)? Because I know for a fact that if they've cancelled one of your policies in the last 5 years on any of their brands they'll stop you from taking out future ones, or limit future ones to single payment only. I've worked for them selling these policies.

Worked with them or not - car insurance, then cancelling their direct debit then yes you are correct, they can refuse, as they provide the annual amount as finance. Life insurance on the other hand is not credit so, in this case, you are wrong

Big difference buddy between them (and L&G have nothing to do with said companies, just affiliated)

"Have you, or anyone to be insured on the policy, ever had ANY insurance policy cancelled by the insurer in the last 5 years?"

Question asked on most of their products, also asked by most other insurance companies. Just saying, for the sake of being too lazy to just call them and ask for it to be cancelled you're setting yourself up for lots of issues in the future. Why risk it?

And my answer would be no, as that would be self-imposed by that particular insurer. e.g. direct line (UK Insurance LTD)

Legal and General (underwriters of the life insurance) used as a 'broker' for most of their insurance activities then its few and far between

Easier for me to just cancel the direct debit as thats with L&G through direct line and its the L&G direct debit i cancel
Fab deal chichi, don't want to tempt fate though

I'll be sure to tell that to the next customer who calls to complain that Admiral have refused to pay out their Car insurance claim because they found out that Curchill had cancelled a Life insurance policy due to missed payments. I won't have to wait too long, it's a semi-regular complaint. But what do I know, I'm just someone trying to help people not have troubles with insurance policies in future for the sake of not making one phone call.

Again, I literally deal with this daily for my job and have done for over a decade. I've given many reasons to call to cancel, you've given none not to other than pride? Are you that desperate to avoid one 2 minute phone call?

If I buy a TV from John Lewis and want to return it, I return it to John Lewis as that's where I bought it, even though the TV clearly has Sony written all over it. Bought your L&G policy through Direct Line? You need to call Direct Line. They're the company you made the agreement with.

I'll also ask, does your "Direct Line" L&G policy have the exact same price and policy limitations as a L&G policy purchased through Churchill? I'll give you a hint, it doesn't. The same way that all of the policies underwritten by AXA are completely different, or through UKI. It's not a L&G policy, it's a Direct Line policy underwritten by L&G.
