Is it not always this price?

Point of interest (to me) this is a 'bladder' wine bottled in europe, When in france this costs-as I remember- 1.99 euros.

Does that mean it's exported in plastic bladder bags from the country of origin?

Yes, at least thats my assumption, could be tanks I suppose, but bladders seem to be common nowadays. Nothing wrong with it as it keeps the cost down. My only objection is that I have seen some quite expensive supermarket wines using this method, which means savings are not being passed on-or the price is over inflated.

It does make perfect sense to bottle commodity wine as close to the point of sale as possible, rather than lugging tonnes of heavy glass around the world.

I'm actually surprised that cheap* wine is not sold in cartons or PET plastic bottles.

As a point of virtually useless information, one was able to buy wine in Chile in 5 litres bladders in a cardboard box at least 30/32 years ago.

* cheap by UK standard, not continental.

Consumer acceptance.

sainsburys sell a "basic" Spanish red in a plastic bottle. 11% alc.
unfortunately it's nearly the price of a "real" wine from lidl or aldi.

Looking for a merlot Chilean valley
