Just bought Viessmann 29kw combi boiler for cheapest ever!!! Very reliable boilers and voted Best Buy on Which? You will need a flue for this boiler depending where boiler is going… Read more

Incorrect - you need it serviced every year by a Gas safe engineer. One who won't just do a 15 min flue test.

If I have new boiler Baxi and 10 years guarantee I don't need gas engineer every years? To keep my guarantee I think I need. It's correct thinking?

W new Build House won't outlast a Viessman lol.

Yes it does. People have tyres that are close to the legal limit, drive illegally for 11 months and change them when the MOT fails. Great system. Of course no MOT for the first 3 years. These cowboys want a service every year., even in the first 3 years for the warranty to be valid. You do not need to get an MOT if: the vehicle was built or first registered more than 40 years ago. I guess you promote the same for a boiler! A well installed quality boiler really should not need checks for the first 3-6 years. A house will soon need an annual check in case the bricks crumble and the house collapses!

I'd say the MOT system works pretty well for cars, 1 year is a sensible period of time. It's no good saying the next day there could be an issue whilst ignoring it's the exact same problem with your CO alarm. All leaks aren't auto-detected so the problem remains.

Still at the same price just in case anyone is looking. I am torn considering the recent Google changes. I am also considering Ubiquiti stuff. Hard to work out which one is right.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the benefit of John Lewis price matching? Is it worth the hassle? Thanks

Yeah that’s what I’m going to do. The only issue is that they only accepted my price match when I used a postcode in an area (Norwich) that had stock for delivery. I live in London and if I place the order to my address they might turn around and say the price match was granted on me being based at that postcode. Worst case, if that happens I’ll return it.

It's the same process as online - order at full price then request the refund. Not ideal but as long as they pay it before I open it up I don't mind - if they decline it for whatever reason then I'll just return it, but can't see why they would now they've said they'll price match.

I have Chromecast and a lenvo home hub. When someone presses the door bell it comes up on the screen. I also have a few Google mini it's announces who's through the speaker.

You're using this in addition to google home devices or as a standalone system (for the bell/power)

Yea I know. It's a shame many devices won't have SD card. What doorbells do just out of interest?

SD cards are no good if the camera is stolen or destroyed. Would imagine the thief would need to know about the camera before jamming the WiFi. It's possible I guess. Most things are. All we can do is make it difficult so as to act as a deterrent.

True, but the system is relying on your wifi, anyone can purchase a WiFi jammer from Amazon and switch it on before they get into the range of the camera. The camera can’t upload because it’s not connected to the internet and renders it useless. Most secure way is to have it wired back to the router, or the option for an SD card to be built into it

I actually ended up price matching and buying at JL and returning my other IQ to trade in for a nest doorbell. The fov on this is great, was originally going to have two covering front of house but one can does it all and still covers neighbours too.

Screwfix have stopped selling this it seems.. Useful. Its amazing the Nest don't supply this given the cost!

This has dropped a couple of quid again and is now showing at £173.99

Just in case this is useful for anyone in the future: Mine arrived. I connected it to an 18V 800mA wall transformer to test it out. It kept turning on and off and after a while stayed off. Later I realised the transformer had broken. Then I tried a 19V 2.4A wall transformer. Again it kept turning on and off. When I switched the 2 wires around (+ and -) it worked fine. I had previously read somewhere that it didn't matter which way round you connected them. Turns out it does.

It's good but the nest aware sub is expensive I think!

It’s basically a 24/7 security cam with the nest aware sub so not just a doorbell really. The view is captures is a lot better than the ring, which is more an eye fish view. This is mine

Thanks for the reply. I paid around £250 for the nest and installation direct from Nest a couple of years ago. The guy who installed it wouldn't touch the control unit and wired the Nest controller unit in the airing cupboard. Everything has worked fine but the control unit is old and serves no purpose. There is nothing on the Nest site about this and google is great at showing me control units to buy. I will look for someone local.

Unfortunately not mate. I’d get a nest pro in to wire it for you as they know the system better than most electricians. Sorry I can’t be more help but it’s definitely not a simple job.

I had mine installed. The installer wouldn't touch the existing control unit, so I have to leave that on with both heating and water set to 'on'. Is it simple to replace the existing control unit? Can I just join the wires up?

I’d get a professional in mate, the thermostat is the easy part, the actual heat link has lots of wires which can be confusing.... but it should be compatible with your system.

Fake news. As long as the stat is connected to the router it works without internet access. Failing that you can use the stat manually. Failing that you can press the big button on the heat link and that starts up both heating and hot water (in my case at least).

This would have to save a lot of gas and electricity to pay for itself....

I think I found the culprit. The auto-learning schedule had added 10deg to my schedule when the eco mode had been set at the default of 10. Since I adjusted the eco mode up to 16, it didn't remove the 10 degrees settings in my schedule!

Sounds like your timed schedule has the 10 degrees set up in it. So it could be jumping out of Eco mode (if you walk past it, or maybe your phone location makes it think you are home) and using the pre-set temp instead of Eco temp. Might sound crazy but yes, they allow scenarios like this where Eco mode actually puts your temp setting UP!!

Not sure why yours isn't working, have 3 nests in family houses and all have eco set to 16 and works beautifully.

I feel if you have to answer a statement like the above then you're wasting your time.

I do have the eco set at 16.5 deg and it still lowers to 10 when I am not looking! Don't want go disable the eco because that defeats the purpose of it knowing when I am home or not!

I play on the Xbox on Siege and never noticed a change. Ping is around 9-15 on 37Mb Fibre

And I wonder what that does to the ping/latency in a house of gamers.?!

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

I don’t really find the zoom and follow useful, it can be a little slow to zoom on the person and when it tracks, can be too slow so misses them as they walk by. I know even though it zooms & tracks you can pinch out to see the full screen, so it’s not like you loose the footage of the person. I find it rarely spots the person via the facial recognition, but that may be down to my positioning, I’m not sure. Don’t get me wrong on the highest quality setting (400Gb per month data!) the quality is outstanding and the ability to maintain that quality to around x1 to x2 zoom is great. So all in all, not sure the extra money is worth it.

Why in your view, does the IQ not offer any advantage? Thought, the zooming and following a face would be an advantage?

That NI posting limitation is a joke :(

Been looking for a deal on these for a while... I need 16 of them, so this looked a decent saving. Cold though (just like my house) as City Plumbing don't appear to be able to use the simple postal service to get them to N.I. :(

The Honeywell evohome controller is needed to get the best out of this system, which is another £200 or so. Each TRV talks back to the controller which makes the call for heat via a relay. If you dont need remote access this might be a bit overkill, but if you want to control individual radiators / have multiple zones set up at home then this is certainly a good option. There are Tado smart thermostats on the market now with smart TRV's and i'm sure a previous deal highlighted some bluetooth TRV's that you can individually control, so that might fit the bil. Definitely worth doing some more research based on your needs and also closely examine your existing heating controls / setup too. You may well find that your existing valves and lockshields might need to be replaced if the TRV's dont fit, which adds cost.

What else do you need for this to work? I don't need the facility to access via phone - just easy control when at home. Would I be better advised to look for something else? Are these the TRV's I'm looking for .................?

Good price, and as Mr.No said a great smart system with more option than the others. I need to link mine back with Google Home for some reason it's fallen out with it.

Yeah I’m not happy about it either. I’d already bought elsewhere so planned to return the new one as the old one (and save £30). They’ve stopped that by delaying over a month. Debating having it and selling the kit (I want the valves) but seems like a lot of effort for £30).

I have same problem, it's been over 3 weeks and city plumbing are really pushing me to take a refund. Yet loads available in store. I asked to pick one up and they said only if I cancel and pay full price.

The TRV only communicates with the hub - you're seeing the request for heat on the hub. There must be something wrong with the hub (software I'd guess as manual override works).

It’s not just to save standing up these are quick at turning on and off no delay like normal ones so saves loads on gas .

It’s has saved me a lot of cash, gas bill dropped £15 a month so it pays for itself . It’s not the same as a normal chatty thermostat it instantly turns the heating on and off no 30 second delay, very accurate and knows when you left the house and when to turn it on for you getting in the house. Saves a lot of wasted gas. Would recommend it . But not at this price . Fully fitted below £200 and you get full pay back within 14 months. Unless you have a good thermostat already. Mine was crap Baxi standard one.

Who thought £200 was a good deal (lol) I paid about £136 for this then £20 for stand and £40 fitting

They have been £150 but they aren't now. I found these though which seem to be a bit cheaper:
