Civilization VI as part of February bundle - £8.85 ($12.00) @ Humble Monthly

Humble Bundle's January 2018 monthly bundle has just been revealed, which also prompts the announcement of the headline game for February 2018.

Subscribe now (or pay early, for existing subscribers) for instant receipt of a Steam key for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. When the full bundle is revealed at the start of February, you'll receive a further seven games (most of which should come with Steam keys).

The base price for the bundle is $12.00, which currently works out at £8.85 (note that if you pay by PayPal, their currency exchange fees will increase this slightly). For new subscribers, if you've recently purchased one of the weekly bundles, you should be eligible for a 10% discount on the first month.

You joke, but this is really something people should consider more.

In gaming communities, I often hear people ask things like, "Is 'x' game worth it for $5?". As far as I'm concerned, once you've gotten to less than $10(or £), what you should be asking isn't 'is it worth the money?', but 'is it worth my time?'. There's hardly any games that are worth playing at $5 that aren't also worth playing at $10. For something you're likely to invest at least 5 hours of your life into, you should worry less about the $5-10 cost and more about whether it's gonna be worth that 5+ hours of your life.

Yeah, those are a bit of a surprise to see, though the overall bundle in still decent - just less climactic given the three early unlocks.

The first Friday in February, not March - but that's probably what you meant.

Personally, I'm yet to be disappointed by any of the bundles that I've been subscribed for, which I think will have been for a little over a year now - and they're always objectively excellent value, so long as the games appeal to you.
Nearly got hit for another terrible bundle, just remembered to unsubscribe before they take the next payment. I'm sure they deliberately put bad months straight after a good month to catch you out. I hope February's bundle's hidden titles are better than this.
How can those three early unlocks be a terrible bundle they are worth the price alone and same for this month

A fair number of people have a tendency to ignore the early unlocks when evaluating the full bundle after the reveals.
Hot hot hot
Wow, this is amazing - for me, anyway. Have a friend who keeps asking me if I've got Civ 6 yet and I keep saying no, I'm waiting for it to go on sale, but even when it was on sale it still seemed quite pricey. But for £9, and with 2 DLC and however many other games, it's an absolute no-brainer.

Oh, and I just paid for a year of Humble Monthly in advance to get 2 months free plus $20 Humble Wallet credit, so in a way this works out to $8.33 or £6.15 if you go for that offer.

Some people will, and if you've already got them there will be someone to sell/trade/gift them to. Really these bundles are all about whether or not you think it's worth $12 for the early unlock, then everything else is just a bonus - and the January bundle had what is probably the best early unlock of any monthly bundle both in terms of value and quality, but now the February bundle is obviously going to be worth it for Civ VI alone as this is the cheapest it's ever been, regardless of what other games come with it.

There has never been a monthly bundle that wasn't well worth the $12. The total value of all the games is always much higher, even if you were going to shop around on key sites or get them from other bundles. So it's all down to whether you want the games or not, and I've gotten several AAA titles that I wanted from these bundles, as well as discovering a few indie gems. The games that I already had or just didn't want I've sold or traded and got my value from them that way.

Sorry but I don't know about this. If I pay the $12 do I get to keep forever or until the end of subscription?
Forever. You can cancel the subscription before the next payment as well
I swore I was going to wait for the complete edition after the reviews 6 was getting (and how underwhelming the season pass DLC seemed to be) but this is tempting. Not sure I even have the time with so many game in the backlog but £9 for this + bonuses is super tempting.

You can cancel immediately and you'll still receive the full bundle once revealed, but you'll lose the benefit of the 10% discount at the Humble Store. You'll need to cancel before Friday 2 February if you don't want your subscription to continue.

Bear in mind that if you get this and then decide to upgrade to a future "complete" edition, through Steam, you may well get a price reduction on the "complete" bundle to reflect ownership of the base game.

I find your comment rather odd as it suggests you found the last bundle not worth the value. What is even more shocking is that you posted a deal for Sleeping dogs at 9.99 alone which you must have considered was good value and that same version was in last month bundle as well. So how could you think the overall bundle was bad value at a lower price point for all those other games as well ?

I find it rather odd you would suggest CIV 6 and DLC alone are not worth the 9 pounds for the monthly charge ? Let alone the other games we might get. How can you say it is terrible before you know what the other games are ?

I understand people might not like the CIV style games but surely you would have to see this is great value for money even if it does not meet your tastes. Do do find some of the comments on the deals are complete puzzle to me.

For anyone with a reasonable sense of value for games this is a good deal even for just CIV 6. CD keys have it listed as 16.99 just for the base game so it has to be worth 8.85

Appreciate that, it's just deflating. Two fairly old AAA's owned by millions are a wasted opportunity, pretty sure I've given them both away at least once already. Much prefer it when the unlocks are indie curiosities and off-kilter titles as so many of them seem to sit on my wishlist for months (or years) at a time.

Thanks
My rational is that I only buy that month if I think the early unlock on it's own is worth the $12 - then if I like any of the other games that's just a bonus. I always cancel the subscription straight away.

Last month it was worth it for Quantum Break and the Long Dark, with Dawn of War a take it or leave it (not really an RTS guy). If I didn't already have Tomb Raider and Sleeping Dogs I'd have been extremely happy but as it is the other ones look as though they are worth a try and definitely not stuff I'd have considered before.

This month Civ VI is easily worth it on it's own, even if the rest of the games for the month are crap or I already have, so I'll be re-subscribing (and then immediately cancelling again til I see the early unlock for March).

Did you pay by Paypal? Op did say it would cost a little more that way.

Is it cheaper to pay by credit card then presumably? How much does that depend on the card though?

Absolutely it depends on the card used, if you choose not to pay by PayPal. Most cards will charge a foreign currency transaction fee of some kind, but not all. I use Halifax's Clarity credit card, which doesn't charge any such fee.
