Maundrell added: ‘The important point here is that anyone that’s booked a flight for a child aged 2-11 for after the 1 May must check whether they paid APD. If they did, they need to make sure they get the money back from either the airline or the travel agent.’

It will save a family of four with two children under 12 some £26 on a flight to Europe and £142 on a flight to the USA, according to the Government. But instead of offering the tax rebates automatically to parents who book their flights and holidays, many airlines are asking consumers to pro-actively apply to get their money back – or miss out altogether.
To add further complexity, parents who have booked package deals will have to go back to the tour operator to make a claim, not to the airline.

Just booked 2 children's flights to Orlando for August 2016 so will be claiming those back! Heat added!

isnt the APD refund only for flights paid for before the rule was announced or if your childs ticket includes it, I believe a lot of the airlines have already included the reductions in the ticket prices already for flights after 1st may. Could be wrong.... But worth checking the tax breakdown on your tickets before chasing airlines.

yes - if you are making enquiries - check / ask that you have paid APD (air passenger duty) especially with holiday companies

Ha ha, expecting anything back from PIA...you must be joking

We booked Cathay Pacific via Opodo in January to fly to HK in July.

Contacted Cathay and they said must claim through Opodo. Contacted Opodo and they said I have to claim after we return from HK at end of August!

what peeves me is they added tax on when you bought in January full well knowing of the changes!! so why have you got to wait?- go kick a$$

Could someone clear this up for me.

So after May 1st the tax on child tickets (for under 12s) will be no more. So the questions are;
Will airlines continue to charge the tax on the under 12s ticket after May 1st? (hence the need for a refund I would assume)
Or will the prices not include the tax?

I've bought a tickets for my little sis and I to go Spain next month, she's 9 years old. We're flying Ryan Air and they're doing the automatic refund, so will I be getting some money back (for her ticket)?

holly100, you might want to include this link: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/travel/2014/12/how-to-reclaim-air-passenger-duty-airline-by-airline

Has a table of many airlines and how each one will be giving the refunds (some are yet to decide).

Is it for tickets bought before May 1st but travelling after May 1st?

Booked flights to Ohio in August. Means I should get about £500 back. Yippee yi yay.

I booked with 1st choice to Egypt last year for this coming August & they automatically refunded me February before I'd heard of this. From next year it's going to be for all children under 16

I checked this and realised its actually months old and still shows some airlines still deciding how to refund. it shouldnt take months for airline companied to do that.

Thank you so much. Didn't know about this will chase up my tour operator and see how much we can get back. Hot from me. Thanks for posting this
