Claim Nintendo Club Star points for the free downloads on the Wii U and the 3DS

Found 15th Apr 2013
Nintendo of Europe have finally opened up giving out Club Nintendo Star points for downloads in the Wii U and 3DS eShops. What's also great is when I logged into my account, I found that I could register Club Nintendo Star points for free downloads like Zen Pinball 2 and Wii Street U on the Wii U and Nintendo Letter Box and (the now defunct) Eurosport on the 3DS.

If you've downloaded or bought some titles on the Wii U or 3DS, it's time to log into your Club Nintendo account and see how many Stars you've managed to get. If you haven't, then now's the best time to start downloading the free programmes and get points for nothing!

If you already downloaded them but haven;t claimed the points, just log on and click on the link (and probably do a survey) to claim your points. Won't make any diff if you delete and re-download. Once you've registered your points, they stay registered and you can't register that title again.

Cheers, ill get on the case tomorrow

Can anyone provide/compile a list of applicable eshop software that will provide stars?

Also, I'm thoroughly annoyed to find I lost roughly 2000 points literally a month before I bought my 3DS. Unsure why.

Thanks, only 200 points away from the large Mario et al. statue.

Hurry up before they steal them back.

Btw does anyone know if the "only register one of each title" rule applies to store bought games and their scratch-card style points? I have two copies of a professor layton game with scratchcards.

I bought 4 nintendo ds units 2 wii's etc and all had different codes but upon registering it said I had already used the other 3 ds & 1 wii code.

you can only register a certain amount of ds and wii consoles.
the points expire i believe after 2 years also

Thought as much. Thanks peeps.

Got mine delivered yesterday, not really large, but still quite nice. I like the box it comes in!

Hot by the way, went through all my downloads and claimed 600 points. Thanks!

Thats why we gave up on Nintendo, will never buy their product again. We were very loyal supporters of the Wii when it 1st came out, my dad bought us all the games & he collected loads of stars. Shame he never read the small print in the T&C's which gave Nintendo the right to remove all his stars if not used within 12 or 24mths? He was trying to build up the points to buy something big, now he has nothing. He was look at the Wii U deals recently but decided it against it purely as Nintendo don't put their customers 1st

Before anyone asks yes he did go back to Big N cust svces & they told him to refer back to the T&C's which state they can remove the stars if not used within a predetermined period of time!

Nintendo are not in the wrong here. He should have checked the T&Cs.

They changed them half way through to suit their needs. When I entered into a contract with them day of launch VIP etc this was not stipulated in the terms and conditions and was forceably revoked by signing into a new web page link which automatically enforced their new terms and conditions at somepoint say 2 years after launch. My point was that Nintendo claim they're a family friendly business yet in this case as only a couple of extra months had lapsed after the deadlines they removed the stars. Any other company would probably do the same quite agree with you, but Big N?

After that point we realised that the family friendly image Nintendo seem to portray is just not the case, they're in it for the money, customer services isn't top of their list. However Apple who i thought would be more cut-throat have sorted out several disputes with me which in some cases I thought i'd never win or get my money back on.

Don't talk about me like I'm not in the room o_O That's just rude.

EDIT: On second read it seems like you're talking about Kas786's Dad while he's NOT in the room. Frankly that's even ruder.

Hang on. Nintendo are hardly the only company to have a time limit on accumulated points. Bummer for losing loads of points thought but no different from other firms normal practices.

Having said that, I would absolutely love the Star points to exist indefinitely so that I can accumulate for the big ticket claims.

Thanks. just checked and have 8 items there to claim for.

recently cashed out 7000 points on here for my mario status so well worth joining this club.

Had 8 free downloads to register so on my way to my next reward now cheers

When you log into your account you should be able to see the number of points due to expire at the end of the month as well as the number of points you presently have and the points you earned since registration.

Any idea of a list of all the "free" stuff we can download?

If I were you I'd get either the Mario statue or the Snes style wii controller as I wouldnt want to lose those points.

Wish there was. Can't find a list anywhere. All I know is what I've already downloaded.

Yeah I was thinking about those two, or maybe the game and watch DS collection. I'm sure I saw fakes of the Mario statue selling on ebay at one point, kinda sucks if that is still happening

I've been waiting for them to add something cool, it sucks that I missed the Mario Kart trophies

With the 3DS you can filter your search I think, if you click "advanced search" or something, you can set min/max prices, just put 0 as max price and leave the search field empty. Not sure about Wii U

Cool, thanks! I only started registering my games in Nov 2011, and none have expired yet, so I'm guessing it must be 2 years? Maybe they will start expiring in November this year

So because Nintendo took away free stuff, you're never going to play Zelda again?! That's cracked.

Mind you, they could probably kill members of my family and I'd still buy Zelda.

I sympathise with his predicament though. I would have been **** off too. Not enough to boycott something but I'd certainly be very irate.

redeemed codes expire after 2 years and any unredeemed codes expire 3 years after the game has launched.

Lost a few hundred points in the past but nothing big, my friend lost over 4000 points, don't see why they should have to expire though seems a little harsh.

I always prefer lifetime use of points but think there are two possible business reasons:
1. Encourages people to use up their points quickly so they don't hoard them for big ticket items (there's finer detail in there somewhere but I don't feel like digging up the marketing aspects now ;p)

2. Like almost all vouchers tend to have an expiry date for accounting purposes (even gift vouchers - Amazon has a 3 yr expiry date), the same principle could apply to points.

thanks

so how do i do this?

do i have to delete and redownload everything or what

the reason for doing it is this:

nintendo would prefer people to just give them the valuable info on their purchasing habits for free, they dont want you to use the points.
