Classic black Docs are just £65 on Amazon at the mo. I know, they don't make them like they used to, but this is the cheapest I've seen them in a while.

They're def not the same quality they used to be when I used to buy them in the 90s.. but then again, new Docs don't give me blisters for weeks.

The decline in quality coincided with them moving manufacturing to China and Thailand...
They do still offer a UK made boot/shoe line, but they generally retail at over £150

So does that make them better or worse? and why? I may be being a bit thick here but I am genuinely wondering why they are different now?

From my own experience I saw a decline in the quality of DM's ...... in the 80's and 90's a pair would easily last for many years and they would break in after several weeks of wear, and the leather would soften nicely over the lifetime of the boot.
Towards the end of the 90's the quality seemed to begin to fall and by the mid 2000's they became pretty much a novelty boot. I noticed that they were really hard to break in, the leather staying very rigid, causing blisters, and often by the time they were broken in the sole had worn right down.... i also noticed that the leather would often crack and peel, rather than soften. The last 3 pairs I owned all cost around £80 but lasted less than year, the soles either split right across from side to side or they wore down to an unwearable level.
In the end I gave up with them, I've spoken to many people who have had similar experiences with the brand.

Worse quality wise, but available to the masses via cheap Chinese labour and materials. Check out the DM’s website, the ones made in the UK are £170 and use the original specification leather.

They were always available to the masses. Or are you referring to discerning skinheads?

Lol no I just meant that the average teenage girls (who seem to be the target audience these days) probably aren’t going to spend that much when they can get the Chinese ones for half the price
