Summary from Richer Sounds:

From the makers of the original soundbar, the Yamaha YAS101 is their best value to date.

SPACIOUS, SURROUND SOUND EFFECTS FROM A SLIM PACKAGE

Consisting of a slim sound bar with integral subwoofer, the YAS101 contains everything you need for effective sound enhancement within just one unit. At the heart of this super-slim Soundbar is AIR SURROUND XTREME. Using 24kHz HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function) technology it manages to clearly separate sounds from in front of you to those that are supposed to come from the sides or rear - without the need for extra speakers! The effects are so realistic you'll find it hard to believe all the sound is coming from the front speaker bar. Added to this is Yamaha's Extended Stereo which gives enhanced stereo sound staging, once again making the sound more true to life and believable.

POWERFUL BASS RESPONSE

In addition to offering a more spacious sound, the YAS101 has excellent bass depth, too. With a dual-driver subwoofer built-in and bass reflex cabinet, the Yamaha YAS101 provides a solid bass response that's a league above just about any TV speaker system. Should you require even more bass, then a subwoofer output is on hand to connect your choice of sub.

CLEARER SOUND

With some soundtracks, especially where there's a lot happening, it can be hard to hear what's being said. Thanks to the Yamaha's Clear Voice feature it's now easy to follow dialogue, exactly as it's spoken. Furthermore, UniVolume keeps programmes and commercials at the same volume level - making watching commercial TV a great deal less irritating!

EASY TO PLACE

Being so slim and attractive, the YAS101 sits easily in front of or just below your TV. Should you wish, you can even wall mount the speaker just above or below your TV.

A massive improvement on the average TV sound, the Yamaha YAS101 gives you the chance to upgrade with style.

You go to the link (which I just checked - works) to see the stores that still have the stock and their phone numbers. Hope this helps

This is an awesome piece of kit. Optical connection is more than a adequate. I paid £180 two years ago, and was more than happy with it at that price.

Don't see why not, but you might need some kind of adaptor, check the owners manual download.yamaha.com/api…396

I bought this last year for £100 from sainsburys and its fantastic. Just the right balance of bass/ treble. You can program your remote so it powers on/off with your tv and volume controls too so no need for seperate remote. At £75 its a bargain!

I would just like to connect a smart tv to soundbar with no wires, is this possible?

I've got this and paid around £170 around 2 years ago. This is the model that does virtual 7.1 surround sound: uk.yamaha.com/en/…del

This soundbar is brilliant and in my opinion much better then the Sony HT-CT60BT which has bluetooth and a subwoofer.

I have both and have just bought a TV that came with the Sony, if the Yamaha wasn't so high I would keep the Yamaha but because the frame is so slim on my TV I am now going to sell the Yamaha.

Not sure why you need the bluetooth anyway, if you have a smart TV or an xbox connected then you can wirelesly stream music to the TV / Xbox and play though soundbar. Bluetooth is an OK feature but I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

Not with this one

I have this with my Sony tv. The sound is superb

Which? Comment based on a price of £150

PROS
Big dynamic sound, compact, handles a good range of sound well, supports Dolby surround sound

CONS
Doesn't always sound perfect, no HDMI (no support for HDMI-ARC), no phono audio inputs, limited to optical digital/coaxial

SUMMARY
It just falls short of being a Best Buy because of the slightly weedy bass and lack of an HDMI connection. But it still sounds very good and is worth considering if you can find it for a cut-down price.

What is the feature called in order to connect wirelessly?

Bluetooth, but your TV will require Bluetooth too.

I bought one of these a while ago, for £149, and I love it.

This is an absolute steal. Voted hot.

This is pretty much how I would sum it up. Nice detail to the sound but it's not going to be rattling any windows with the bass, although it will connect to a standalone sub. It is a little tall as well, even with the feet off. I like it though and would recommend it.

I have one of these and it's pretty good at this price. I connect it to my TV with an optical cable. Nice bassy sound, although it obviously isn't as strong as a separate sub. These are cheap because the new YAS-103 comes with Bluetooth.

At this price you can't really complain though

Tempting - are there two inputs so I can have Sky & PS3 through it?

I think it would be bluetooth, your TV has to have bluetooth too

You connect everything to the TV and then the TV output into the soundbar. Check the owner manual in the previous comments for more details (I'll add it to the main post too)

You can set it up to turn on and off when your TV does and to change the volume through your TV controls but if you still need the remote I'm sure you can get it on eBay or amazon or whatnot. Your choice really

I can't help thinking it might not be that good for the TV to have it sat on top of something that's rattling away. Maybe it will work something loose inside or reduce it's lifespan somehow. So maybe the relative lack of bass on this is a good thing

I still think I'd prefer my TV to not be resting on my subwoofer though.

Looks good. Has a 60w subwoofer to the rear built in.

Collect in store only, otherwise Id nearly be tempted.

If it was £30 quid I would buy it for the bedroom but at £75 it can stay in the shop!

I have this managed to snag it for 22 quid on the Tesco wild goose chase last year and its a beast of a bar even at this price...

The TV doesn't sit on top of the soundbar. The soundbar sits just in front of the TV. Maybe, it coukd sit just behind ther TV, but the telly definitely doesn't sit on top of soundbar.

OK thanks, good to know. I think my Dad would need a new TV stand to use one then, as the base of his TV is pretty much at the front of his existing stand and this thing would probably obscure the bottom of the screen as well, so he'd need to raise the TV up or something.

nothing left in Norwich store... damn
