Thought this might help someone who is looking for a new computer, but doesn't want to upgrade to vista quite yet

PC World have many clearance refurbished computers available for sale from only £149.99 Some seem like a quite good deal, especially the HP ones.

Was waiting for this. thanx

where is the link ?

thanks

just spent the weekend fixing my PC after a motherboard mishap. If I'd known about this offer I'd have just bought one of these!

These are all based on the old 533FSB Celeys...seems ages ago those came out

The Packard Bell ISTAR one at £189.99 is a good price (even better with 6% Quidco) as it includes 512MB of RAM which is the minimum I would recommend for XP. It also has slightly better integrated graphics (although very basic)...usually its (from poor to acceptable) VIA, ATi X200, nVidia 6100/6150 chipsets. The others have 256MB which is just not enough really and these would perform quite sluggishly even more so with a Celeron.

Good deals tho for those just after a basic light office / internet system

I'm totally confused by the range of chips now... used to be Intel Celeron or Intel Pentium whatever-number, now it's all different "flavours" of Celeron and Pentium chips, totally confuses me.

There are 3 pages of them and they move upwards in terms of specs, starting with the Celeron and ending with the Pentium D.

However whilst there are some very cheap PCs to be had for the most simple of activities, a like for like comparison on say the Mid Range Packard Bell 1459 at £264.99 shows that you can get the ]Comet eMachines PC for £5 more which is brand new, has a bigger hard drive, XP Media Centre, Free Vista Upgrade, and TV tuner.
