Chronicling a day in the life of Quick Stop clerk Dante Hicks, CLERKS captures the hilarity of the humdrum even as it raises slackerdom to existential proportions. From behind his counter, Dante desperately tries to exert some power over the crazy customers, his own love life, and his incorrigible friend and fellow clerk Randal--the type who sees nothing wrong in closing the video shop he works in to go rent movies from a better store.

15 years on, and still an utter classic - great price for this set.

Yeah, I bought this set having not seen the film and it's awesome :-D

What's the difference between this and the 'Clerks X' dvd set? Can't tell from the HMV site.

A great film indeed but how do they stretch 3 dvds worth of material out of something filmed in b&w in Kevin Smiths free time when he actually was a clerk? :?

FYI there is a Blu-Ray version of this coming out very soon. I imagine this is a factor as to why this has gone cheap.

Anyway, top film.

Looks like it's the same but in a 'steelbook' dvd case, it's a great film and at a great price, I bought the X set when it came out so no need to get this too, heat added!

Great deal!

I got the Clerks X when it was released but I may get this as an xmas pressie for someone.

Kevin Smith is an underrated comic genius. Other great films by him worth getting are:

Clerks 2 (obviously) - £3.85 @ Zavvi
Mallrats - £3.85 @ Zavvi
Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - £4.49 @ HMV
Dogma - £3.98 @ Amazon
Chasing Amy - £3.98 @ Amazon

It's been around this price for over a year.

37! My girlfriend has sucked 37 d---s!

That and the discussion about how it was bad to have blown up the 2nd Death Star because it would have been full of slave labour whereas the the first DS was manned by Imperial nutters. Pure class.

37? In a row?

Jersey Girl is ok but i wouldnt put it in the same class as the other Kevin Smith films. A bit too soppy and the story is weak because a lot of the classic Smith humor has been diluted for the 'hollywood' scene.

There is also a Clerks animated series which is quite good. Unfortunately this is only available as Region 1 dvd.

I now own 4 versions of this film, VHS, Laserdisc, R1 DVD and Clerks X.

Chasing Amy is clearly the greatest film he has made.

Clerks 2 is just plainly bad, pandering to the teenage stoner audience that he should have moved on from a long time ago, Jersey girl is far better, but you have to feel the poor performance of that film at the box office led to him going back to the well for Clerks 2.

Jersey Girl suffered from the Bennifer press overload, but despite a few bad editing choices is still a very good flick, Carlin and Root are just plain great, and it looked like Smith was actually writing for the audience that had grown up along with him and his movies.

Dogma was one of the best screenplays I have ever read, unfortunatley the film is only half as good, it's still quality it's just not as good as it could have been.

Mallrats is a fun flick, hardly groundbreaking but suffers from a truly terrible performance from London.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back is about as funny as your average Scary Movie flick, if your have a mental age smaller than your shoe size you might get some enjoyment out of it, otherwise stear clear.

Zack & Miri Make A Porno was a step in the right direction and is an easy going flick to watch but it still lacks heart.

Clerks: The Animated Series is pretty funny and deserved more than the handful of eps that got made, the courtcase episode with Judge Reinhold is a stand out classic.

A couple of flicks worth tracking down are, Vulgar, A Better Place and And Now You Know, with the exception of Chasing Amy and Clerks they far outstrip the Smith stuff.

Also worth buying for comic book fans is DAREDEVIL: GUARDIAN DEVIL, and GREEN ARROW: QUIVER, there are also CLERKS comics and CHASING DOGMA which is supposed to link the end of Dogma to the Start of J&SBSB

And for completists An Evening With Kevin Smith and An Eveing With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder are worth a purchase (and for eagle eyed viewers with Evening 2, I'm the long haired guy in the front row with a Mage T-Shirt on) also Donnie Darko Directors Cut has Smith on Commentory with Director Richard Kelly (which led to Smith appearing in the much underrated Southland Tales) as does the R1 special editions of SPACED. and his cameo in season 2 of Veronica Mars (which also featured a cameo from Joss Wheedon) was quality.

For total Completists then you can also add his turn in Catch and Release and his cameos in Daredevil (the directors cut is actually a pretty good movie, steer clear of the theatrical cut though) Die Hard 4.0 and the pilot of Reaper, which he also Directed.

Agreed and putting Silent Bob and Jay into comic book format was genius, as so we didnt have there apperance ruining this film, dont get me wrong Silent Bob and Jay are as much apart of the View Askew as the others but they do cater for the more childish veiwers and as such can distract from the movie.
