back when Kevin Smith knew how to make a film, shame it was all downhill after Chasing Amy.

Well said there. I loved clerks, but since then his films have been getting progressively worse. Clerks 2 was shameful. Really awful. This is still a pretty hot deal though.

Wasn't Zack and Miri worth watching?

great films

of course original is best, but still good material in all his movies

True. Such a shame....at least I'll always have Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma (and J&SBSB) in my collection though.

And you're right...Clerks 2 was absolute rubbish!

Clerks 2 was an awesome film and a worthy follow up.

Clerks - good but overated.
Mallrats - an enjoyable watch, but awful dialogue in places.
Chasing Amy - probably his best movie.
Dogma - second to Amy, as his best work
J&SBSB - The only Jay and Bob film he could make, good for what it is.
Clerks 2 - fecking funny!

snootchie bootchies love these films.....porch monkey were taking it back....lol

worth it, a true classic. Clerks 2 sucked. Kevin Smith is a total douche these days. Brodie will always be the best.

well, if he's not, i am. i've got everything KS has made so far, all the Smods, all 3 'evening with's
, even some of the more obscure stuff (Vulgar, A Better Place, Drawing Flies, although these aren't actually KS movies, he's still involved with them). i've even got the awful Degrassi High episodes he & Jay were in.

but getting back to the original post, great movie for a great price. some awesome extras too, including my all time favourite KS clip - The Flying Car. if i didn't already have the standard 3 disc edition, i'd be getting this steelbook version.

Amy is by far his best work, shot for ****** all and yet it can stand proudly with Suburbia and Boyz n' the Hood as one of the best films of the 90's. That and it got a Criterion Laserdisc release (the hallmark of quality)

Clerks is second, it was an impressive debut, again shot for ****** all but it is chock full of charm which is rare for a cast of nobodies.

Jersey Girl is third, heavily flawed, badly edited, but strong performances pull it through. At least he was trying something different rather than just pandering to what he perceives is his teenage stoner fanbase (forgetting that his fanbase would have grown up along with his movies and may want something a little better than a basic gross out comedy)

Zack & Miri takes fourth, half good film, half complete dross

Mallrats slides into fifth, it has Lee, It has Affleck, it has the talentless London brother from Party of Five. the direction is non existant and it's what happens when you swap talent for budget.

Dogma is in at sixth, it's not a bad film but I read the screenplay about two years before it was made and the script was just so much better than the finished project, makes you wish he had waited until he was a more competent director (also makes you wish he hadn't hired Linda Fiorentino)

Clerks 2 takes seventh, a truly terrible film that fails to be anything other than pandering to a bunch of sycophantic board dwellers.

J&SBSS will always be last, one of the worst films ever made, has about the same hit rate for funny moments as Scary Movie 4.

As for the other view askewniverse stuff, Vinnie's film A Better Place is absolutely awesome, as is Jeff's film And Now You Know they can both stand proudly just behind Amy as the best of the bunch.

Also worth checking out his run on Daredevil (Guardian Devil) or Green Arrow (Quiver) for proof that he really is a fantastic writer when he sets his mind too it (Not Neil Gaiman Great, but certainly up there) And I do have my fingers crossed for Red State

Berserker!

What's on all the discs?

£3 if anyone lives near a FOPP store.

Apart from Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Zack and Miri, the last few are not as good, they are still good films.
