I have no idea, I didn't ask!

Apparently ikea is heading down that way?

I'm hoping it does, saves me a trip to Leeds Birstall branch.

Not if backwards sheffield city council have anything to do with it, they have stupidly been refusing ikea for years on the basis of it will stop people shopping in town, even though millions are lost every year due to us sheffield folk traveling to Nottingham and Leeds ikea.

If Sheffield doesn't want it then I'm more for it to be in Barnsley bring in more trade & jobs.

Last day of trading is 7th December...Good old Homebase, making people redundant in time for Christmas!

Where would it go in barnsley? there isn't much free space.

thats sad i know people who work there

I doubt anyone would mind if the town centre or it's dire excuse for a shopping entre was demolished and replaced with an Ikea.

Otherwise, I'm sure there is land on the Dearne Valley Parkway which would provide easy access to the M1 and for people in Doncaster, Rotherham & Sheffield too.

What would you suggest as a good time for redundancies?

In the long run they're lucky they got out. I worked for them for 18 years and it was AWFUL.

That seems like a daft comment, No time is good but just before Christmas is incredibly harsh, sometime just after the Easter DIY rush would have been 'nicer' for the Employees even if they are told now. I take it you have never had to tell your kids you can't afford to give them presents at Christmas?

first thing in the morning, as it really sucks to work a whole day then be told...(been there)

That's precisely the point I was making, it's never a good time.

Anyone know what time the store closes tonight?

Thanks, got lots there this morning. Tiles, lighting. Not much wood left. I picked up some bt6500 cordless phones for £22 still plenty in. Saw some cheap large mirrors, lots of paint, wall paper steamers for £20ish, loads of garden pots at good prices, not much plumbing stuff. There was a Stanley section with a selection of every day tools / knifes that was well stocked.

i worked there 14 years and i was made redundant - we must have liked it a bit to stay so long , i was lucky i worked with really nice people

Obviously there's no good time for redundancies, but the run up to Christmas is a worse time than most. Winter and rising fuel bills, Christmas, lack of jobs available in the New Year etc etc.

asked today closing is set for 7th Dec or when all stock sold. some stuff up to 75% off but told that will go up as they near end of stock or choosing date

Is Homebase closing everywhere or just Meadowhall branch? Is it worth me trying a Homebase elsewhere?

I went last night and it was getting bare. However i did pick a shower up and some tiles. Looks like i am ripping the bathroom to pieces for crimbo!
