Unfortunately sometimes people just hit the 'go to deal' tab before reading the posts (like I have before!) so I thought this would make the deal nice and clear.

The drive should be able read data disks without any extra software and burn with Toast Titanium.

Playback of a Blue-Ray movie disk however will be long winded.

Would the Revo 3610 work with this? as my PS3 is on its way out (loud)

Yes, but you'll need some Blu-Ray decoding software, to playback those blu-ray discs.

And you will also need at least USB 2 , as Blu Ray Movies run at 54 Mbps whereas USB 1.1 ran @ 12mbits. So if you have an older computer, this might not work quite so well, it would have to be pretty damn old though ! And you should be able to buy a USB 2 PCI card for it also.

Good price and looks to be a good deal , heat left

Usb 2 has been around for 10 years but a 10 year old pc would struggle to play a blu-ray, so bringing up usb 1 is a bit silly to be honest.

If you're from the UK (which I assume^^), you can get this even cheaper from iwoot:

the IBM x336 server has USB 1.1 I believe, that's only 4-5 years old....

As commonly used as a HTPC.

Well, perhaps not, but I guess my point was you might find machines less than 10 years old without USB 2.0. Particularly some laptops I think, as I seem to recall the power draw is a little lower... and I have seen people use laptops as htpc's

Might be silly for some people, but there are a lot of laptops and PC's out there with USB 1 (1.1) still. Worth letting people know so they can check it out before hand. As the next couple of posts stated there are machines capable of playing blu ray that have USB 1 ports, so maybe you are the "silly" one ? I have a laptop here that is capable of playing Hi Def content but only has USB 1.1.

I take your point, just haven't heard of usb 1 only laptop/pcs for so many years I would have thought that anyone wanting blu-ray on their pc would have a recent pc with at least usb 2. So the bit on a ven diagram of people who want blu-ray but only have usb 1 would be very very small, no?

ok drive come today and looks good just need to find some free software to play blurays now
