Ungava Premium Canadian Gin 70cl - £15 @ Co-op Instore (Newcastle)
Posted 13th AugPosted 13th AugLocalLocal
Found at Darras Hall, Newcastle Coop. Never had it yet so unsure if any good? Normally £30 elsewhere.

Also £15 in yorkshire.

Had some at a gin festival last year and liked it.

Got this when Amazon dropped them to £12 for a few hours. Very good but not to everyone's taste.

Not a big gin drinker but liked this especially in an artic fizz cocktail. Heat added.

Ungava is a very intriguing Canadian gin, made using six rare, botanicals which bestow upon it a distinctive flavour profile and the natural, vibrant colour. A gin that is fruity, rich, sweet, tart and spicy. Squeeze the grapefruit wedge into a glass. Add ice cubes and then the gin, simple syrup and coconut water. Finish with the soda and garnish with the grapefruit slice. Reviews and details here..

10 pack of Stella Artois (440ml cans) for £6.37 instore at Co-Op (Bury)
Posted 12th AugPosted 12th AugLocalLocal
Hi, long time user and first time poster. Just been into my local Co-Op for some orange juice and noticed they had a 10 pack of 440ml cans of Stella Artois priced at £6.37. I queri… Read more

Just been to 2 real co-op's (not franchises), £9.75. Don't waste your time, seems like it's just 7 packs in the one shop of which the OP bought 5...... typical of this site, 830 degrees. As for no longer selling Stella, I asked the manager and he chuckled and said 'why would we stop selling one of our biggest selling alcohol brands' which makes sense.

Nice find @mjwarbo - not a massive Stella fan myself, but a good price is a good price :)

Haha I check all beer to see the price per litre (lol) 🤟 (y)

Damm, I bought 18 for £15 (annoyed) from Tesco, yesterday, can't even take it back. its 5 cans short now (party)

Shame nobody else found any.

Old Jamaica Ginger Beer Regular 1.5L - £1 @ Co-Op
Posted 11th AugPosted 11th Aug
Carbonated Ginger Beer Flavour Soft Drink with Sugar and Sweetener

Nobody says that sugar is good for you, but research is already there to support how bad that artificial poison is for everything, but especially cardiovascular health. But who needs listen to science when it's easier to scream "fat epidemic" without actually looking how we got that fat in a first place.

Absolutely. A few of the Sainsbury's own brand stuff survived the cut (the traditional lemonade and high juice cordials spring to mind). I honestly can't wait for the artificial sweetener backlash. It will come. It's just a matter of time.

Barely any drinks left that did not go artificial sweetener way, but Waitrose own brand is still sugar on all of them. And Waitrose Fiery Ginger beer is rather good in my opinion.

dur.naj this

Yeah. Drink too much, and it's curtains for you.

Lloyd Grossman 350g jar cooking sauces 2 for £2.00 ,cheaper than BOGOF, New Farnley Co-op

Conversely this brand might be the only one with enough supply to keep up with panic buying demand? The small niche supplier use contract manufacturers and those brands were delisted during the pandemic as their wasn’t enough supply. Big manufacturers can reduce range and keeping manufacturer Iines for more number of shifts

Mmmmm garlic 😋

Interesting that during all of the panic buying a few months ago, this brand was often all that was left on the shelves...I wonder if the supermarkets took note

But only if you buy 2. You may want to buy 1.

Great price really, cheaper than buying one so not sure why getting cold votes

I agree, no one should care about your health except you. I have no sympathy for people who suffer based on their own regular poor eating choices. People can decide for themselves what they want to stuff in their gob.

One of my fav tofu. Really tasty, you can fry..marinate before though. My best recipe would be frying with minced lemongrass and a dash of soya sauce (double soya - win win), so fragrant & yummy

The Tofoo website have great simple recipes. I can’t recommend this enough: However I do think the Tofoo brand is overpriced, you can get ~400g for £2: And even cheaper if you have a local Asian shop/supermarket.

Yes I would always advise draining as much of the liquid as possible. Although Cauldron and Tofoo are quite firm and easy to drain. The method you've described is fine for these tofu brands (although I think with this brand, Tofoo, pressing it with kitchen roll or a cloth repeatedly also works - particularly if pressed for time). I have a clamp-style tofu press, which makes draining super easy ( If cooking delicate/fragile tofu (i.e. silken) then the tofu press is essential in my opinion.

I usually wrap kitchen roll round the Cauldron brand Tofu and place a cast iron pan on top to drain and firm it up, would this benefit from the same also before cooking?

Remarkably versatile ingredient. Pat dry as much as possible. Slice and lightly coat with soy sauce, oil of choice (I use rapeseed), and cornflour. Pop in the oven and bake for 20-25 mins at 180degC. It'll take on a chewy, almost meat-like texture with a crispy coating. You can then add it to ramen, stir frys or even have it in a roll with whatever salad you like (it'll taste similar to a crispy chicken sandwich). Thanks OP, have some heat.

People in Asia have been eating soy for centuries - are they all growing massive breasts? Soy is made from legumes, why do you consider the organic stuff that every supermarket sells "gmo crap", unhealthy, and bad for the environment?

...what? Meat consumption is going up as more people are able to afford it and the population increases, despite more vegans/vegetarians.

It sure does
