Nothing wrong with full fat drinks as long as you are sensible with it's consumption! Otherwise you can pretend to enjoy the fake stuff whilst simultaneously poisoning your mind and body. MM

Common.Sense

The why did you say "forced"? Were you telling "porkies"?

msefan

Wow so much hate @waterloo @Common.Sense No one put a gun or forced me to buy anything but he loves it so much, like seriously loads.

waterloo

There are other shops apart from the stinking poundland and DH not on here please.

Common.Sense

Forced? Did someone put a gun against your head and threaten to pull the trigger, so feared you would be dead? May be gluttony ;)

msefan

I used to get this for DH from Poundland, but they haven't had them in stock for aaaaages (I have been scouring my nearest 2 Poundlands for these). I was forced to buy these for £2 last time coz he freaking loves them so much. So thanks for the heads up OP.

Wow hiw silly

ton3yb

It's a national thing now, any big chain super market will prompt at the till with a bulletin asking for age verification. Been like that for about 3 months now maybe? Annoyed me so much I started buying water with my lunch (lol)

r4963

Never had such a thing must be something weird they do at your store.

Gozer

What drives me crazy about these drinks is that you can't go through supermarkets self check-outs without a staff member verifying you're over 18. It's not alcoholic.

This is the stuff I use: https://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Big-K-Restaurant-Grade-Barbecue-Charcoal/266898011?from=search¶m=big k It's used by all the top restaurants in London (Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver etc) and not surprising given just how good it is. I tried it once and simply can't buy anything else now. Proper sticks of wood, not rubbish little lumpy bits. Not cheap but often on a 3 for 2 deal if you wait. I cook on my grill 2 or 3 times a week and usually buy 6 boxes in the Autumn discounts that easily get me through the year. The Ocado man loves that delivery, haha. I can get my grill from cold to 180C in 15minutes, it's proper charcoal that sparks as it burns.

compadre

If I want a quick bbq I use wood, fortunately I have plenty. I mean small branches about 1" or 2" diameter. This does not last long, so if you need it to last longer just add some lumpwood charcoal or briquettes. The wood I use is garden trimmings, hardwood not softwood. It obviously can't be used straight after you cut it, just let it dry somewhere. Saves a trip to the dump! Ps. Just let the wood die down and go grey as you would charcoal. Can save a fortune (small!)

wilkie1980

Any particular ones you can recommend? I switched from gas to a charcoal BBQ this year. Only used it once as I had some cheap light the bag stuff I found in the garage. The choice of different charcoals is staggering!

-=blootoon=-

I do it because i want to and i do not want to use any paper or lighting fluid to start it off, just 5 or 10 minutes on top of the gas ring and i can switch it off and let it heat up, when i clean out the bbq i put some new charcoal or briquettes at the bottom of the chimney and pile the old stuff on top ready for next time. What i gain is time because using the gas with the chimney cuts the waiting time right down, but if you want to stand around waiting for yours to heat up then go ahead and do whatever floats your boat.

ro53ben

Why use a chimney starter for lumpwood at all? Just put it in the grill and light it. Briquettes are intentionally designed with additives to burn slowly, making them harder to light, which is where the chimney starter really helps...especially as you need to burn off the nasty fumes from those binding agents before you start to cook. With lumpwood this isn't the case, it just burns. Nothing to be gained by using a chimney starter, I haven't used mine in over a year now as I stopped using briquettes.

Sam 99p store had them recently. Home bargains had 1.5+33% free for £1 too. I haven't been in a week or so though so this might be the best widely available at the moment, that's why I didn't vote.

Poor value, can source it for £1 in small pound stores. Sad to see these prices going up in normal stores, like so many other things. Not inflation linked either

OMG what a talent, being able to remember the prices of every item in EVERY store. Please can you tell me the price of Argos catalogue number 774/3827 and how many are in stock in Chelmsford please x

bonzobanana

They both have their offers that beat each other but I would certainly agree overall Coop is cheaper and it's ethical too. I have a Coop just down the road, 5 minute walk and they have a wide range of offers and some prices are competitive with main supermarkets like some veg. Cucumber and lettuce that I buy regularly is similar money, 50-60p each. Also corner shops tend to have better short life reductions as they don't have the footfall so tend to price lower to shift them. This is an ok deal, they've done better. As previously stated the dippers are a bit low quality and I would say the main fish isn't amazing either. I really like the Carte D'or ice cream though.
