Noticed your avatar, it's a shame that Liz Fraser isn't on the new Massive Attack album as rumoured...there again, it's all good to have changes, Hope Sandoval is awesome on it.

Fantastic, I was lucky enough to see her perform with them at the Oxfam tsunami concert in Bristol in 2005, even better seeing both Massive Attack & Portishead on the stage together! Saw her perform with them at Westonbirt Arboretum Gig in 2006 as well.

cicobuff, I guess you've seen that Liz Fraser has recently released a new single, Moses. Any idea if we can expect an album from her soon? Would be a real treat

There's been rumours of an album for years, I heard that Trevor Horn was producing it, but I suspect nothing's going to appear any time soon. I've got if filed next to the follow up to Mary Margaret O'Hara's debut album.

Great interview btw.

voted COLD. rubbish album, stupid vocals, and cheaper at amazon

To warn fans of decent music not to be fooled into buying this junk. Her work with FSOL is amazing though, and her duet with Jeff Buckley.

Top stuff - nice to see some quality on here instead of the usual rubbish.

So Liz Frasers vocals are only "stupid" when she has worked with Cocteau Twins in your opinion :?

Strange then that they were "not decent music" and "junk" that they had such a profound effect on many an artist since, and helped pioneer dream pop/shoegaze...pioneers of genres tend not to be called "junk" or "not decent music".

I can understand if their not your cup of tea, but I think your description here is somewhat puzzling, unless perhaps you are trying to get a rise by trolling the thread maybe?

Saw Cocteau supporting Simple Minds on their New Gold Dream tour in early 80s, quality band, quality vocals, quality music....voted hot.

Ignore Horsepills.....obviously had too many pills ;-)

Head Over Heels would be my fave album, check out the track Tinderbox.....awesome.

Never knew that Cocteaus ever supported Simple Minds back in Simple Minds heyday before they went stadium rock cack!....awesome. Was too young back then, always was envious of the footage I have seen of them doing a gig supporting Killing Joke in 1983.

Those other albums have also been posted on here, check them out and add heat, great to see some Cocteaus fans coming out the woodwork on here!

No probs, I've use the opportunity to buy these too, only got into them last year by chance when I heard Four Calendar Cafe on someone's ipod. How I didn't hear of them in the 80's god only knows.

Well i think it was SM they supported.....or was it OMD.....was a lifetime ago it seems... Bristol Colston Hall for sure...circa 82/83 ish....possibly.

Also check out Liz's awesome haunting vocals on This Mortal Coil's "Song to the Sirens".... hairs on the back of the neck stuff....

There's also a classic "Old Grey Whistle Test" video of the Spanglemaker/Pearly Dewdrops on there if you dig about....well worth a look.

Top album.

The soundtrack to a beautiful dream.

I'd forgotten how much I like them... and you don't really hear their songs...thanks for posting this

I'd second that for "Song to the Siren", a wonderful take on Buckley's original and I'm lucky (or old enough LOL) to have the original 12" vinyl. I'd not even heard of Tim Buckley before this, of course went on to check out his other songs. This Mortal Coil's albums are well worth checking out, as long as you don't go in expecting just Liz Frazer on vocals. For those who don't know them they were a collaboration formed from other band members signed to 4AD, kinda a "super group" if you like, with different artists on each record. I especially like Blood.

Great to see people appreciating this thread ;-)

No worries:-D. I don't post many deals but saw this (plus Head Over Heals and Bluebell Knoll) and felt compelled too. Share the good stuff.

Colourbox - now that was a fantastic 4AD signed duo (occasional trio). I went thro' a stage of buying anything that came out of 4AD stable until a misadventure with Gregorian chants

Can't recommend TMC "Filigree & Shadow" album enough.

Apologies that this thread has turned into a Cocteau Twins/4AD love-in.....

I was the same - saw 4AD on the label and wanted to listen. Your not a fan of "Dead Can Dance" then?
