3346570.jpgCollar of Gold is a superior Rapeseed Oil, made using a unique, patented process. Unlike other oils, vapour is used to extract the oil, producing a lighter, purer oil that allows the flavour of quality ingredients to shine through.
3346570.jpgProvenance
We source our Rapeseed in Counties Wicklow and Kildare, Ireland. We cold press in our purpose-built plant to Drogheda, on Ireland's North-East Coast.
3346570.jpg3346570.jpgSizzle,Drizzle, Bake!
The exceptionally gentle extraction process means Collar of Gold performs particularly well when used in baking and as basis for sauces and Vinegarettes.

Its emulsifying qualities result in a greater level of smoothness and silkiness while, in baking, Collar of Gold performs as a high-quality butter would.

The product's lightness also means it is perfect for salads, it won't overpower or flatten a salad.

The leaves retain their natural qualities and freshness.
The Oil's superior performance...

Innovative patented process
Top Chefs have confirmed the oil's superior performance. With no strong taste or colour imparted on the food.

Its purity also means the strong smell associated with oil at high temperatures is not an issue.

At a temperature of 170c, Collar of Gold will remain stable for up to 12 hours, meaning it will last longer on the pan. In fact, Chefs report up to 7 times longer.

  • Odour Free
  • Taste Free
  • Clearly Pure in colour
3346570.jpgEndorsements
Collar of Gold is making a name for itself in some of the world's top kitchens and with some of the industry's most revered chefs.

"We have been very impressed with Collar of Gold, Irish Rapeseed Oil. Its resistance to tainting means that we can reuse it five or six times for frying. It is a superlative product that has enhanced our cooking and saved us money"
Marguerite Keogh, Head Chef, The Five Fields, Chelsea London (Michelin Star)

"Collar of Gold is a beautifully pure and natural oil. We use it in dressings and sauces, where it does not compromise flavours and are delighted to work with world class Irish food producers."
Kieran Glennon, Head Chef, Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud (Michelin 2 Stars)

"We use Collar of Gold in all our emulsifications, dressings and mayonnaises. It is a top quality Irish Product and we are delighted to use it."

3346570.jpgA Story of Invention
Peter McCloskey, Founder of Collar of Gold set out to reinvent a staple.
Something in the kitchen, which we all use, but which could be better. Rapeseed oil has grown in popularity in recent years. Mainly due to its ability to perform at high temperatures. But all the oils available lacked subtlety. The rest, is Peter's Story....

“I grew up in a large food producing family, beside a mixed produce farm and was always taken-in by the delicious and wholesome bounty of this beautiful country. At our kitchen table, we were all nurtured and nourished from the ‘magic’ that happens when the best quality fresh ingredients and the right atmosphere combine with family and friends.”

“Collar of Gold is the result of an ambition I had to make the purest and most natural oil, that allows quality food ingredients to be the hero. Elevating them to a new level. Collar of Gold’s lack of strong taste, neutral colour, high-temperature performance and wonderful emulsification properties, has earned us a place in the restaurant kitchens of Ireland’s finest chefs. And on the kitchen tables of Irish families. Enhancing those special, magical times with friends and family, when you want to serve the very best.”

Collar of Gold is made from virgin oil, from seed grown by Irish Farmers. We slowly extract the golden oil, leaving behind the bitter tasting outer shells. It is 100% natural and high in omega 3 and 6 and suitable for both cold and high temperatures uses. Always letting the flavour of the ingredients shine through.

An oil steeped in the tradition of the land of its birth and decorated with the Gleninsheen Gold Collar. A three thousand year old treasure of the Irish Bronze Period

I'm not sure if it's the endorsements or the method of extracting the oil that make for the premium price at its usual RRP, but I added all the info I could. This oil has a more neutral taste than traditional Rapeseed Oil.

100% rapeseed oil is exactly the same as 100% rapeseed oil. Blind taste tests have proved time and time again that some people are foolish enough to pay more for an over-hyped brand (275% more in this case) thinking they are getting something better.

Had a look and looks like a hype to me, thank you for posting this, as I have learnt something new. Extraction by steam, ooops I meant by water vapour

Well, I can't defend or dismiss this product as I rarely cook, and cooking oil and its differences mean little to me. Just thought it would be of interest to someone. Similarly, thanks for posting.

I tend to use sunflower oil for frying (Usually £4 for 5 litres) and Extra Virgin Olive oil for making salad dressing.
£2.50 today. My sister loved this stuff and I assume will buy it again (she's not answering on Facebook Messenger, currently)
