Smelling of little? Do you mean your washing machine smells funny? If so, do you use gels or liquids in it? Because our washing machine was the same and was advised to revert back to washing powder instead and to make sure to do a 90 degree wash at least once every couple of weeks. Cured the problem for us. Doesnt ever smell iffy anymore. It's the liquids and gels that cause the issue.

I have sold Miele for years and the problem with smells is the body fat/protein building up between the drums because of low temp washes. It has to have hot washes regularly. Liquids detergent doesn't help either. Your whites will start to go grey over time because of it. The engineer will just advise hot washes to clean it out. Had my Miele 15 years and is still working perfectly. Hope this helps

Miele machines are not the animal they used to be

Oh, I see. So it is just the lack of softener/fabric conditioner aroma that you're not happy with. Well, I've also found that my existing washer seems to take the softener in too soon (not on the final rinse and hold as it should be) which means it gets rinsed away. So, I've had to resort to omitting it until the cycle has fully completed and then go back and give it one final extra rinse with the softener added at that stage and that seems to have sorted that problem but I admit it's a nuisance and shouldn't have to be the case.
