Looks like a good upgrade machine as DDR 3 memory is pretty cheap and also a 1tb internal harddisk is around £50 - if people wanted to upgrade in future this could be the machine for them!

The AMD 620 chip = AMD Athlon II X4 2.6 GHz Processor (just googled it also!)

Would this be good enough for video editing? We were about to set off to PC World to trudge around and get frustrated by their staff, but you may have just saved us a journey.....!

It would be great for video editing ,Performance is approx equal to Q6600 / Q8200.

According to Microsoft's compatibiltity with the versions and the XP Mode settings, you can download XP Mode, but it will only recognize Win 7 Professional and/or Ultimate so it will fail to function on Home Premium - you would have to do an upgrade to Win 7 Pro if you wanted to use XP Mode that this chip supports! Think there is a student/parent Win 7 Pro deal floating around on here for approx £36!

Cheers OP

Just bagged one.

It's comparable to Dell Inspiron 560 (£399, but the Dell only has 2gb memory)

Original Poster

Not sure Dell Inspiron 560 comes with a Crystalbrite screen though and graphics are integrated on the Dell not seperate like on the Compaq. AMD cpu also a lot better than the Intel Dell cpu!

Will it be able to take up to 8gb Ram?

How do you get free delivery? It is coming up as £5 for me at the checkout stage.

free delivery would be instore collection at selected stores

Anyone know what motherboard this comes with?

is this a good gaming computer?

innovationwatch;7359342

is this a good gaming computer?

No, the 6150 will be pretty woeful for gaming I'm afraid, and the 'SE' tag generally means that it's a further cut down version, and it's not a dedicated card in the true sense either, it's an integrated solution with dedicated video memory.

Depending on the motherboard, you should be able to easily stick something like a 4670/4850 in there and have a decent gaming machine for a very good price.

Edit: Just read the full specs, and it has a PCI-E 16x slot, so you can easily plug in a dedicated card if you feel the need.

iw1234;7359402

How does it compare to this onehttp://direct.tesco.com/q/R.206-8767.aspx

The Compaq comes with a newer, faster, more efficient CPU, an extra gig of ram, a much nicer monitor, and Windows 7, I'd say it's easily worth the extra outlay.

It does use a lot more power than the Q8200 though: xbitlabs.com/art…tml

It looks like a decent PC but as mentioned above it's not a dedicated graphics card but an integrated graphics card with dedicated memeory. I couldn't see monitor resolution but 18.5" generally signifies the ones that use a lower resolution than normal at that size (a normal 19" one is 1440x900 but many labled as 18.5" are only 1366x768).

Does anyone know what the warranty would be on this? The Tesco Direct page makes no mention of this.

If you have a college email address you can get the Windows 7 Pro upgrade for £30 here;

If you're gonna upgrade this to a gaming machine by putting in a better graphics card, you may well need a better PSU too, so budget £40+ for that as well.

Workaround to install XP Compatiblity mode on Windows Home Premium and Basic >

If you already have Windows XP then you could use the free opensource Virtualbox from Sun

A generic Compaq one, probably.

This is the same processor as on the barebones unit from Novatech which costs £209

]http//ww…x4-

It comes with 4GB of DDR2 RAM and integrated graphics.

You have to buy a DVD RW, a Harddrive and the OS.

I purchased this machine a few weeks ago, and I am very impressed. It was easy to install the hard drive (I used a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint which cost £50, and I reused a DVD RW from an old system).
I have ordered an ASUS Geforce 1GB 9400 GT for £35, although the onboard graphics are very good.

The Windows 7 OS cost me £35, although I could have used an old copy of XP.

The total cost of this system was £330. (it would have been £345, if I had needed to buy a DVD RW).

So if you feel you can install a hard drive, DVD RW and Graphics Card (just means plugging / slotting them in), and you don't need a monitor upgrade, then this barebones is worth looking at.

I purchased this one a few days ago for £279.

Went OOS after a couple of days.Lesser processor but an extra gig of ram.No monitor though.Picking up tommorow

I bought this Compaq a few weeks ago. Really pleased with it so far. It's very quick to start up and shut down. It's also quite quiet.

The motherboard is manufactured by Pegatron Corporation. The model no. is Narra6. The version is 6.01.

It has 4 PCI-E system slots.

can someone please confirm that the monitor is HDCP compliant? That means it has a DVI input.

If monitor doesnt have DVI then its not HDCP.

thanks,

Good deal hot hot

For anyone interested, Pegatron is part of Asus (although they are now selling it off) and it does all their OEM bits. HP/Compaq have been using Asus motherboards for years

Never had a problem with the Compaq/HP machines, normally pretty well put together. As with any "budget" buy, if you are looking to upgrade graphics, make sure the PSU will handle it - a mid-range GPU won't cause any problems, but, if you get into the realm of cards needing a separate power feed, a PSU upgrade is often a good idea.

Anyone know what watt PSU this machine has??

just ordered, picking up from store friday, great spec, was gonna go to mesh today, would have cost £100 more for same spec.

Just ordered!
