I think the AMD Athlon Dual Core Processor is from Desktop PCs so would produce alot more heat and drain the battery more?
I think the later version AMD Turion X2 is the newer laptop version which is more comparable to the Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

Was is specifically a Compaq laptop your after??

One amazon review at £389
disappointing, 13 Jul 2009 By Podman (Suffolk UK) - See all my reviews

first impressions were good, looked sturdy and good quality until switching on for the 2nd time and the power button fell apart.......... The switch seems to made of plastic less sturdy than the average model kit and the locating lugs had snapped off. HP support advised to return as couldn't replace switch. Went for the refund as considered the design of the switch to be a repeatable fault and didn't want it happening out of warranty

The Athlon QL series are laptop processors. The QL-64 is similar to an Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 or a Pentium Dual Core T3200.

Overall it's an OK price for the spec but it's the price you would expect to pay for such a laptop so not a hot deal.

Cool, so did the QL series replace the Turion64 X2 as well?

I agree about the price, this model is available in a few places for the same price.

Not at all. Just after a sub£400 laptop, with Vista, at least 2GB RAM, sd card reader and webcam, and a processor that's not terrible and slow! (and numberical keypad if possible). The one in my post seems to fit the bill, but just wanted to check as I'm not overly knowledgable about these things, and particularly with how good/bad the processor is.

Where else is this available? Perhaps with discount codes and/or quidco I could maybe get it cheaper?

Get onto dell outlet, I picked up a Dell 1545 with vista premium 64bit, 4gb Ram, 320gb Hd, Webcam, white gloss cover, LED screen and a T4200 2ghz intel dual core processor for only £345 yesterday...

Dont buy a laptop with Vista Home Basic on it.

There is no upgrade path to Windows 7

I've got a similar CQ60-212EM. I bought it from the HP store with a 10% off coupon for 314 quid. I got it because it was the only sub-350 notebook that had a GPU other than Intel GMA. I wanted to play GTA San Andreas on it, on low settings o'course!

2GHz Sempron SI-42 -- Took me 5 hours compared to 3 hours on an C2D 2.4GHz to encode and burn a DVD.
2GB RAM
15.6" / DVD-SM with Lightscribe
160GB HDD
Nvidia GF 8200m g -- Better at games than any Intel chip, but still is very poor and gets super hot.
Vista Home Basic -- Fine. Who cares about aero? Anyway just use Windows 7 RC. This kind of PC will die before 1st March 2010!

Plus a crap webcam.

Plus lots of fun uninstalling trial software.

Had a problem with keyboard drivers and contacting customer service who didn't have a clue, but were good enough to send me recovery discs for free.

I should addthat battery life is abysmal for such a low powered device like this.
