I bought one of these the other day from Amazon (swees-shop) for £3.29. I was considering spending the £20+ on the official Apple one having read the reviews but decided it was worth a punt for £3.

A few apps have been released recently that have added a new use for the ipad. Filterstorm pro has been out for a while but Adobe have released Photoshop Touch and Apple have released iPhoto. The idea is that while on holiday I can upload photos from my camera to the ipad (JPEG and RAW from Panasonic GX1 and JPEG from Canon SX220 both work), delete or quickly edit them in one of the apps and upload them straight to Dropbox or Flickr. The screen isn't good enough for serious editing but should be good enough for websites.

You could get further use out of it by sticking some TV shows and movies (I have only tried MP4 format so far) on an SD card for extra storage when travelling.

I have a 32GB iPad 2 and this accessory works very well. The build quality is solid. The iPad occasionally says "accessory not supported" but that message doesn't appear to affect the performance in any way. This deal may freeze but I hope a few will get some use out of it.

Thanks for editing the title whoever it was. I got mine from swees-shop but that is not fulfilled by Amazon.
Will it work with the new ipad?
After a cheap CF version if anyone can recommend pne ?

Roger
This is rubbish (sorry) bought one this week, only works for SD cards (with appropriate folder/file format) does not work at all for USB (keys/card readers etc.)

The reviews for this and the 5 in 1 all same pretty much the same thing. Also the direct camera/USB connection idea again seems very flaky with people saying wont work with D200 Nikon/Canon 50D etc

Deleted my previous comment due to poster above having more info.

It is a shame if it doesn't work for USB but you could still do all of the things that I suggested by putting your movies in a DCIM folder on your SD card. All of my cameras use SD so I couldn't tell you about CF cards.
I'm not sure if it was the camera kit but after trying my SDHC card all 8GB of photos on there were gone. I hadn't checked it in my camera before hand (annoyingly) but they were all there a few days previously. Has anyone else had this problem with the kit or could it have just been a fluke and my database was corrupted beforehand?

It seems to work well with my camera (when I took some more photos) but only with the USB and Pictbridge as my camera puts its images inside a folder inside DCIM.

Once you have finished transferring to the ipad there is an option to delete the pictures off the card. I presume you didn't do that but that's all I can think of. Did you have to re-format the card when you put it back in the camera? That would imply that something corrupted it.
so you can stick movies onto an SD card and into this and play them with vlc player on the ipad? obv they have to be the right format etc but still?

can you use it with a microSDHC card in an SD adapter?

never knew you could do this if possible
does these now work on Jail Broke ipads? i bought one last year, sent it back thinking it was faulty after jail breaking an IPAD2. Borrowed an official one & that worked OK.

My ipad is jailbroken on 5.0.1 and this kit works. As far as I can tell you need to have the movies in a format that the ipad supports (mp4) so you can't stick mkv or avi files on an sd card and then play them in AVPlayer because you need to import through the standard ios interface. I have all of my movies in 10GB+ mkvs so I plan on just converting the ones I want to ~1GB mp4 files using handbrake. It's not an ideal solution but it is OK. You could put all of you AVIs on the internal memory and put all of you MP4s on an SD card.
I would be interested to know if these work on the new iPad . . . Apple are so shortsighted, it would've been easy to put an SD or microSD slot on the new iPad . . .
Thanks! Mine arrived today, managed to import MP4s into the new iPad using an SD card (creating a folder named 'DCIM' and renaming MP4 to be 8 characters long). It even allowed me to import from my iPod Classic connected via the USB slot (again using a DCIM folder on the iPod) even if it is a little temperamental occasionally. Videos are stored in the camera photo roll though and I can't seem to name them so I guess I'll stick to importing a single movie at a time onto the iPad.
