I've had this card since January and find it pretty good, the only problem is it sometimes losing signal when the computer goes to sleep or shuts down, but I'm sure theres a fix for it somewhere. I don't use it too much so haven't really bothered looking! Picks up all channels + HD though.

£2 cheaper at scan if you can wait for them to come back in stock.

Will it work with S2? and also will it record C4HD for example? Anyway to get the freesat guide with it?

Original Poster

The way I understand it, it won't work with s2 but I don't know if anything is putting out only on s2?
Does anyone know if there are any s2 only channels or will be in the future?

it doesnt say s2 so probably not , and it wont get the freesat epg. The BBC HD channels are going s2 in the next couple of months so it will be useless for HD then 4HD is DVB - S2 on Eurobird1.

Any more info on this? they've been saying it for years but never actually done it...
You usually get the EPG through the software which you use so it doesn't matter if you can get it over-air or not.

I did read somewhere that the bbc would need a whole new setup of broadcasting software to put out S2. In other words they don't have the ability to run both S and S2 on the same equipment.

This is going to sound really thick....but do you still need a satallite dish with this?

yes but if you already have a sky one up you can change the end to have up to 4 outputs and just use for free sat with no charges from sky

No problem, I started with sky on the £70 one of payment including setup (about 3 years ago) Then changed what I think is the tranciever on the dish (to increase outputs) and now have freesat in all of the bedrooms. And now getting one of these to record TV on the cheap aswell

I have one of these (and its bigger brother the S800F), running through windows media centre on windows 7.

It gets all the current available HD channels (BBC1 HD, BBCHD and ITV HD - C4HD hasnt come on yet) and works perfectly, it records series, you get the EPG, and for the money you just cannot go wrong.

I got mine last year for the world cup so I could watch it in HD and cancelled my sky 2 months later when I realised I just wasnt using it.

Take a look at 126 on the Freesat EPG - C4HD works just fine here. You need to rescan (or edit the file yourself) if you aren't seeing it.

I used to use one of these (from Scan when on special) with GB-PVR and will recommission when updating to N-PVR. Good value item.

Oooh Ill have a rescan tonight then, I know it wasnt there when I last rescanned.

I've had one of these since 2008 when they first came out, works very well no complaints. Works perfectly with Media Center, drivers fully support Windows 7 and it picks up BBC HD and ITV HD. One thing to watch out for if not already mentioned is there is (or at least was) a bug with the latest driver pushed out over windows update, causing the card to report no signal after resuming from sleep. Easily cured by rolling back to the previous driver.

Don't update to the latest drivers or you'll probably lose all signal.

used to run two of these, very good. Only issue with 7MC seems to be swapping between my DVB-T and the one remaining S350 I've got sometimes results in a lack of signal.

Do these work with CS?

anyone know if these can run under ubuntu?

Will have to give this a go.

I've an old Haupage (spelling?) card in my comp at the moment and a spare Sky box attached to it and the picture is pretty rubbish, watchable but not great. Will this card be better do you think? My current card is a good few years old, certainly pre HD. That said, the box I've got attached isn't HD.

I guess I just want to know if I can hook up to my Sky box and probably get a better picture than a 6 year old card I'm using!

Could anybody recommend a half height card for our new Microserver??

Does anyone know if I can split the output from my sky+ dish or do I need a quad LNB?

i'll repeat the question about CS ?
pm's welcome

I have SKy +
I have a splitter box thing in the loft that i run another 4 tv's off, that i control sky with magic eyes etc.
can i use this with the 1 aerial wire thing that goes into the back of the tv, or do i need 2 like what goes into the back of my sky + box??

Appologies for been a bit simple and thick

Neil

Pig_Dog: You can't split the signal from the dish. The LNB (the thing attached at the end of the arm) receives power from the receiver and switches polarity depending on what channel you want to watch. It is not practical to run more than one receiver off a single LNB connection as they could conflict in requesting different polarities. You can always change your LNB for a twin, quad, or octo (2, 4, or 8 connections).

dodgydoggy: Whats CS?

I have this card myself, its not S2 & can't pick up Channel 4HD (where as my Hauppauge S2 card can) but this is a great card to get you started.

It may be worth checking out shop.bt.com. Not sure how they are connected to DABS but I've used them before and they sell everything DABS does & the website looks just the same. They currently have the S350 card for £22.41

Scan also sells this card for £22.43 for the lucky people who can get free delivery.

Don't forget TopCashBack for BT or DABS...

BT bought Dabs some time ago. The BT Shop and Dabs are the same place really. Not sure why they run two different brandings.

c/s is card sharing , do it propper guys , go buy a dreambox

Thanks for the info, Ive had this card for over a year and only started using it for PVR today as I cancelled my Sky. Spent the whole after noon looking for a fix and even the latest drivers still dont fix the problem but rolling back to the older ones does.

I don't think a quad LNB is too expensive, about £5 i think ours was.

Is this card a tv tuner and does it record display to the device its connected to

I'll give it ago, for the novelty factor of using Skygrabber!... apparently the muzzies were controlling yank drones with it somehow! hahahah, my use will be purely educational

This is a very nice card, got it about a week ago from Dabs and somehow I was not charged for delivery, so the final price was £20.49 for me

It works out of the box on Windows 7, drivers are downloaded automatically and compatibility with Windows Media Center is perfect.

The only drawback of this card is that it is not DVB-S2, but for this price you can't really complain.
At the moment the only S2 channel on Freesat is CH4 HD anyway.

Highly recommended if you have got some unused Sky dish sitting around (who doesn't?)

should be according to this

From the sounds of it, that appears to be just DVB-T, not DVB-S (i.e. from aerial, not Freesat...)

It is not a tuner because it uses a satellite connection not an aerial. But with a sat connection you can record through media centre and other software.

Hope this helps

If you are going to use this card for satellites other than Sky, it won't be any good for watching HD.
You need a card that does DVB-S2 as well as DVB-S
Edited by: "stamfordblue" 6th May 2011

Had one of these running for about 8 months now. Great card, simple to use under W7MC and image quality with Freesat is better than Freeview IMHO. Can confirm that it definately will not pick up C4HD and in the near future may not pick up any HD channels if BBC and ITV switch to DVB-S2, but worth a punt for the price.

dodgydoggy

i'll repeat the question about CS ? pm's welcome

Any PC card will work with CS its dependant on the software you use to view the picture, if it supports the right plugins.

Rubbish, mine picks up BBC HD and ITV HD perfectly, do your research before making silly misleading posts. You only need DVB-S2 to pick up certain channels e.g. C4 HD.

Has anyone received theirs yet?
