But after winning more awards they up the price again will have to wait longer than. Still get some heat as this is the cheapest I have seen it at the last few weeks

It's definitely worth the price. Only got round to it recently but it's easily one of the best games of last year, if not the generation. Especially if you're a Remedy fan.

It's absolutely packed with references to Alan Wake (one of my favourite games of all time) so I hope we'll be getting a remaster or even a new game some time soon! The 'AWE' expansion for Control, due in mid-2020, is heavily rumoured to be Alan Wake themed (in Control 'AWE' means 'altered world event' but could also mean 'Alan Wake experience'!).

It's a shame the performance isn't better on PS4 though. Even on the Pro model the textures are quite muddy, it suffers frequent framerate drops and absolutely tanks in certain points (e.g. for some reason when leaving the pause menu) and the load times are way too long. And that's 4+ months post-release and after several patches. It really should be better, especially this far into the generation when several developers have proven what can be achieved on the PS4 (Guerilla, Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica etc). It doesn't ruin the experience though. The art style, story, characters and most of all the gameplay are absolutely fantastic.

Strong recommendation. It didn't sell super well either so I'm always going to encourage purchases in the hope that Remedy keep making games like this!

Loved Max payne and quantum break, did not like alan wake though, but looking at the game i though it was more in the direction of quantum break than alan wake or am i wrong, just discovered i had 21 pounds in voucher for tesco left, might just get it as it will only cost me 7 pounds than :P.

Control is the game they've been building up to imo. Takes the decent, sci fi/horror story lines and puts them in an awesome metroidvania style game world. Loads to do. Loads of stuff to find. Optional side quests and bosses. Best game I've played since Breath of the Wild.

it's called CANTWAITTOPLAYTHIS CREAM!
I’m on Xbox but it’s definitely one I’m waiting to try.
of course game pass has been mentioned a million times but I think I would of already bought it regardless had I not had a few games I’m still busy playing.
Definitely if hits £20 id buy it - even if it comes to Game Pass it’s unlikely to stay there long term and id probably want the aforementioned DLC.
thanks for keeping in the lookout! Much appreciated

Its funny people keep saying this, as xbox boss apparently said it by accidents and Microsoft brought out a statement saying it had no plans to bring it to game pass. Maybe it will come to game pass at some point but probably not any time soon.

I have also noticed that when a game is on game pass i have less desire to play it than when i actually buy the disc, its like netflix there like a million shows on there and i can never find anything i really wanna watch even though i am sure there is enough series/movies i have not seen yet which would be great, but if i buy a blueray or dvd i make damm sure i watch it i never bought one and just left in there and never watched it XD.

I loved Alan Wake too, easily one of the most memorable games on 360 for me. I was less keen on the American Nightmare release though. I would love to see an Alan Wake 2.
Really enjoyed this game, worth the price in my opinion.
Ill sell u my copy for 25 posted

My thought exactly. As an example i didn't get far on Metro exodus and I think it was because of the fact it was on Gamepass. Think I'd have played more if I'd spent money on it.

I also recognise this is quite irrational!!
I couldn’t get into this after a few hours I gave up maybe I’ll give another try some time

Nothing irrational about this it's all especially since I agree. Same goes for me, I am more inclined to finish a game even if I don't like it that much if I have paid 40 ponds for it. If in paid 10 ponds for that same game I would not finish it.

Game pass games have to be good for me to finish ( for me good is a really good story line and not alot of grinding)
Voted cold, thought it was DS4 controller

Stop using ponds as currency.

It's going to be Interesting to see how games evolve once streaming becomes the norm. There's no reason to stick with bad games/movies/TV shows when you've not invested specifically in that game/movie/TV show and have so many other options readily available to you. So something will have to grab you more quickly rather than be a slow burn.
I can imagine games will end up being shorter on a whole eventually because of this.

The performance issues are the reason I continue to wait till I purchase. I still think it's bad that very few mainstream reviews mentioned them. But then they did gladly take Remedy's money to market the game on their sites so it's not all surprising reviews didn't go into performance.
It is surprising Remedy didn't spend more of that money optimising the game though.

Sub £20 and I'll prob bite to see what the fuss is about. Who knows, maybe another patch will hit by then...dlc must be soon.

I just got this game and playing it on ps4 from this deal. Now i have noticed performance spike when leaving the menu in game (not the inventory menu just the one that pulls up the exit the game option) i never need to be in this menu but somehow i press the wrong button constantly, always need to be in item menu or map and that is a different button. But the only thing i have noticed here it takes like an extra second before you can move again (assuming its the same kind of problem some other games have is that the developers forgot to lock down the framerate of this menu and in some cases its just goes crazy and causes preformance spikes). Another thing i noticed is that sometimes some object (you are not focusing on its to the side of your screen) the texture does not load as fast, but this only happens when i am running around not when i am just moving around. And one time i had an enemy spawn randomly infront of me. But even with these minor issues i would still recommand this game in it current state. Its a really good game.

Most reviews I read/listened to at release did mention performance issues on consoles, e.g. Hardcore Gamer, Atomix, Easy Allies, Gamespot. Even IGN speak in some detail about the performance issues, and they gave it their GOTY! So I'm not sure which reviews you think neglected to discuss it. Just link out from the Metacritic page and you'll see.

We should remember two things with respect to performance on PS4 and patching. One is that this game had a relatively small budget for such a quality AAA game (20 millions euros, about a third of the average for a AAA game) and Remedy have VERY little experience developing for Playstation, having had a close relationship with Microsoft for many years. Not that this excuses the poor performance entirely, it should be better, but it offers a little context.

As I said before, the experience the game provides is easily worth more than £20. I'd urge you to give it a shot if it seems like something you might be into.
