Ha ha ,
Too many people like yourself in this country.
I am a self employed joiner , and I have to laugh at some of my customers who moan . I drive a Van which costs a fair bit and have around £12K of tools to do my work , then I get people moaning when I price work up . Then they go with guy that’s half my price who turns up in a car and not the right tools ! Then ring me back to put the work right . Happens all the time .

Good on you for being a decent tradesman. Unfortunately you're line of work is littered with absolute cowboys who have absolutely no concept of customer's service, are rude and provide shoddy workmanship. These workman are recommendations from people at my own work where my organisation would go bust with the customer service I have received from gas, plumbers, plasters fencers and joiners. Lucky period in time where I live where jokers manage to survive in business because of the amount of people loading up on their mortgages and getting work done. Come another recession these Muppets will blame everybody else for the hard times. Shame there is no proper regulation

Yep lots of cowboys, but if you do the correct checks and go and check previous work done by the tradesmen then that’s half the battle . I have a portfolio of my work and previous customers to give reviews and show others my work .

I know a few tradesman and I'm starting to hear this more and more.
500 quid to erect 2 fence panels! The parts are about 40 quid! Yeah well I have to cost in to the job exepnsive lease of my van, business insurance, liability insurance, van insurance, my expensive tools, maintenance of tools, training courses, fuel to get there, extra bloke, license to dump rubbish, dinner...
As far as I'm concerned you can't expect people to pay for your entire business in a single small job.
It's like charging 300 quid for a piece of skirting board because the machine to manfufacture it cost tens of thousands.

I have different prices for different jobs . I am fully booked 8 weeks in advance all year round . Yes I make good money but I produce top quality work . But I will not work for less than £300 a day when I price jobs up .

That's true, Since when have bathroom & kitchen deals included fitting? I posted this as it's a great price if you're looking to refurbish etc: & not for a debate about trade labour prices

I'd personally rather pay to have something done properly by someone like yourself if I can afford it, than get a total f**king idiot to do it and cause me twice as much hassle, and twice the repair bill to put it right. Like others, I've made the mistake of hiring someone a bit cheaper, only to find the work turn out to be a total horror story.

And I will only buy if B&Q wipe me every time I use it.

Lots of things these days come with professional fitting included in the price like tyres , kitchens, thermostats etc . Reputed companies stand behind you by guaranteeing the labour. And they can get work done cheaper as they can employ staff full time and their staff is manufacturer trained. If there is any defect in the product , the staff can point out and not use it so as not to get problems later . So in my personal experience , I find it cheaper and better to use manufacturer trained, company staff .

Not sure about this comment, just wondering whether these company staff use band 20 or have spyware installed on their systems?

You've still left me confused.

You can buy a tyre online and get it delivered to your house, it doesn't include fitting. If it does at a garage they'll be charging you extra for that. If you think its free then you're living in a dream world.

If you want goods fitted on the cheap then the work will likely be of inferior quality.

It is so easy as a consumer to think that when a store offers a item with 'free fitting' that you're actually getting free fitting. Its a marketting trick that seems would work with you.

These items are easy to fit yourself. Just have some confidence. Toilets just push on, connect water and screw to floor. Basin and pedestal just as straight forward. You will have a great sense of acheivement.
