Cookworks Espresso Coffee Machine - Black Argos - £34.99

Found 11th Dec 2013
I have just received an e-mail from Argos promoting 50% off selected coffee makers.

They have reduced their own brand Cookworks Espresso Coffee Machine to £34.99.

This deal has went hot previously - good reduction from £79.99!

From reading the reviews it looks like the machine has opetion of coffee beans or pods and milk frother.

Will take a look.... Thanks!

have one of these - it's good but I then discovered Dolce Gusto and, whilst not quite there with the proper steaming, the convenience of capsules won me over - no messing with grounds, keeping the steamer clean etc etc.

that said, I've not got rid of it - paid about the same price last year and keeping in case I ever 'entertain' and the 'whooshing' of making a cappuccino does help with conversation in the kitchen

This was a which best buy a few years ago.

does this take capsules please

Hot, looks good.

From reading the reviews it looks like it takes pods!

there is a pod it can take (never found which though) but it's really designed for grounds

Yeah, from another post it's these ones:

lidl.co.uk/cps…190

Hi, purchased one last year, lasted 2 months, lights came on but would not heat the water, took it back to Argos, as they where unable to supply a replacement, had money refunded. When it worked it was all OK, you can use the pods from Lidl. We now have the Tassimo T20 from that great deal earlier this year, if you buy the T discs when on offer, its not too expensive.

ordered thank u!

ahh - explains it - I was looking for plastic pods thingies - not discs (DOH!)

I think that's why technically they're called pads (!) and are like tea bags. I believe they should take any ESE ones, which include Senseo and can also be got from Amazon, but the Lidl ones are good (and cheap).

BTW this was £79.99 just yesterday when I looked, so have reserved locally. thanks OP.

really hot price

Great price for an espresso machine!

Mind looking at this last year for a christmas gift and the reviews were great.

£32 in Wilkos for what looks like the same machine (though im not sure if you can use pods).
I've had this for about 3 months now with no issues, great coffee.
You get 2 year warranty with the wilkos machine (not sure about argos)

I had one of these for about 11 months before it stopped generating enough pressure to make the espresso's. It was great whilst it worked and the aldi ESE pods are decent (and cheap!), although I used fresh coffee. Personally I would say this is at the right price, no way is it worth the RRP. The aldi silvercrest espresso machine I bought two years ago though is still going strong, albeit only as a backup these days.

can it make a latte?

Good to see this original deal for this has got on the hot pages....... and the dupe I spammed has been booted off.
I get fed up with the constant reposts on this site these days.

nice!

This takes ground coffee, not pods, and I got it about a year ago for around this price, one year on and it's still making coffee. Can't really fault, If I wanted to be really picky, I could say that it helps to turn the flow off and let the element heat up more half way through making a cup, as the coffee is not that hot otherwise.

Yes, it has a milk frother.

I have been wanting one with a steam arm for ages, at this price I might just have to take the plunge. Thanks for sharing op!

I bought one of these, back in January, when it was £32.49 from Argos, +£15 vouchers from ShoppersDiscountRewards(if you spend over £30). But I had to return it within a week. I don't know if it was a faulty one or not but everytime I switched it on, the machine was basically shaking, thus making the cup/glass moving from its position. I had to hold the cup while it was filled.

Here is a video of this machine

I agree, although to be fair, the search facility is rubbish (even more so via the app) - I posted a deal a couple of days ago, where I had searched before posting and no existing deal came up, until a mod PM'd me. It turns out the post the mod referred to was also a potential duplicate, where that OP had also stated they had searched but not seen anything.

Are you sure you have this machine - I have it in front of me and it does take pods/pads as well as ground coffee!

It is that machine, I did get some other filters I didnt use....I guess one of those is for pods then?

Good espresso...while it lasts. We had one but broke just out of warranty. You get what you pay for.

Last month i bought the nespresso deal from waitrose. In all honesty I wish i got one of these first purely because you can make a strong cup of coffee and you don't have to mess about with capsules at 30p a throw. In addition, the nespresso capsules are extremely watery and poor value IMHO. I got the one from WIlko for the 2 year guarantee

Can anyone give me a little advice on these please?

We are not coffee drinkers but my son and girlfriend love the Zuma hot chocolate that is made with a shot of chocolate and then steamed milk. Would this machine be suitable for that? I don't want to spend a fortune on a coffee machine when all I need is the milk steamer!

heat for me

Back to £79.99 - shame, would have voted hot!

Having problems with our espresso maker- the coffee is strong for a few seconds, then quickly becomes too weak, even when using very strong coffee. Do we need to take it back, or are we using it wrong? Can anybody give any tips?

has it been like this from the beginning

one scoop of esspresso really only for a very small cup

i myself would use 2 scoops and fill half a mug and fill the other half with hot milk for a latte to give you some perspective
