Just ordered one of these from Amazon. Seems a good deal at that price as the Kindle is over £100. Will post my findings when it arrives. Anyone used one before?

The Amazon reviews for the black and green models don't look good!

I have an Elonex E-reader with E-ink and it is really good. So much easier to read than standard tablets.

Yes, reviews on Amazon are pretty poor.

Review from Mail Online is kinder LINK

Good price, but not enough to tempt me away from my Kindle....

I have a Kindle and an Elonex unit I purchased from Waterstones. They work much the same however with the Elonex unit I can buy the books from all sources.

I'm just going to order one for my daughter as at £49 it's a bargain

Don't HMV sell a lot of Elonex products? I seem to remember they make cheap earphones and stuff like that.

I had one of these.Say no more kept freezing tried all sorts of things to resolve problem ,gave up in the end.You get what you pay for .Also not sure but I dont think Cooler dont exist any more unless Elonex have taken them over. Also be warned ,if you buy from Elonex all their telephone numbers are 0870 even the sales line !!. I had dealings with them in the past and if you send emails to them they don't reply !!.You have been warned !!!

Not made by Elonex, by Interead. And Elonex at least make/made netbooks, FWIW.

Sorry misunderstanding I was talking about Elonex not replying to emails.

how are these for pdf?

The Cool-er unit was initially developed by Elonex for Borders books and Interead did a deal directly with the factory to buy units.

Interead went into Administration and to replace the supplier with Elonex product these units were taken as part exchange against the Elonex product .

The stock is now being sold below cost to clear them from our warehouse. Furthermore We can confirm the raw material cost for these units is over twice what the units are being sold for and impossible to physically make the units for what they are being sold at.

This stock clearance can not be repeated and is a genuine bargain .

Loads of these on eBay at £49 with free delivery and 12 month warranty.

Elonex poster??!

I think the major advantage of getting a Kindle is how easy it is to get new books at a reasonable price (from the Amazon Kindle book store).

If you get one of these e-readers, then assuming that you're not going to pirate your books, you won't be able to download Kindle books, and you'll have to use one of the other ebook stores which I think are more expensive. So in the long run this could be a more expensive option.

I got one of these when they were £60 on Argos clearence.
Brilliant little device, so far read 4 and a half books on it and only had to charge it once. You're not going to find another reader for this price with an e-ink screen.. not sure about the freezing, I've not had a problem so far.

Keep in mind that all the reviews are when it was priced at £120 too. It might not be the best, but its also a lot cheaper.

Got two of these for my parents and have a sony myself!

DONT buy these unless you seriously cant save up to buy kindle or Sony.

they are awkward to use menu system, the buttons and case twist and creak when used. they are a nightmare to update, they frequentky crash and require the updated firmware.

not worth the £50 saving imo

Made by neither. Made in a factory in Shenzen or Taiwan; it's all the same crap. If it displays a clear black and white picture then job done.

Nothing gets past you does it!

Good device, if you have problems with PDF just use Calibre to reprocess them

Sorry it was just we noticed the comments and wanted to help clear up some of the queries.

We use Elonex as our identifier name and wrote the email in Elonex context to ensure we did not mislead.

If we are doing anything wrong then we are happy to put right and your advice is greatly appreciated

See these would of been great if the original price point had been around £75 and they didn't look like a knock off Apple product =/ better format support and expandable storage everything I wish my Kindle had! the user interface could do with some polish though

I actually just saw this in Cnet's video of worst tech names ever.

cnettv.cnet.com/wor…tml

You can flash the Pocketbook 301 software onto these....

I bought a cool er from ebay only to find interead have liquidated and even though elonex took over the making or selling of the cool er ereader, no one is willing to repair or help with technical support....do not buy.....

Elonex is supporting products sold by Elonex International or The PCFactory Shop however is it possible you purchased from another vendor. Please make contact with Elonex support if the product was purchased through the group and we will support the product.

Best regards
