CD ripping to FLAC is my primary use of an optical drive.
These days you can get USB CD/DVD/BD drives pretty cheap, failing that SATA is hotpluggable if you need to use it. Reality is that these days not many people use internal drives so companies just stopped building them into cases, and this case is small enough the drive likely wouldn't even fit without covering part of the motherboard.

Agreed. I need one for my well-used bluray writer. I'd have snapped this up if it did.

Cobblers. I have CD & DVD backups going back to the quadspeed CD drive days and I still want to be able to access them. And you cannot guarantee that any specific cloud service will still be around in years to come. Just look at the companies who have scrapped cloud offerings or drastically reduced the available storage space. BT (scrapped twice), Virgin, Barracuda, Box, Microsoft.

no, its the number of people who uses it vs the amount who don't, Manufacturers factors it, if you like one with a drive bay then find one that suits your needs. plenty out there. some people still uses 3.5 floppy disks, some even uses the 5.25 but that doesnt mean that manufacturers had to include them as well.

Used this for my first build a couple of months ago. Highly recommend, was very easy to work in, good air flow, looks good and very easy to keep clean.
So how do I go about building a gaming machine?

Still doesn't answer you assuming people don't use them because you don't
As for companies - because they make them without doesn't mean theres not still a call for them.
Remember vinyl records - the clever charlies who WEREN'T clever said they were gone for good "Nobody uses them"
Cassettes too
And these cases are still made, you know. Therefore - still a call for them.

Just a few points for anyone considering buying this (I did a build with this case 2 weeks ago).

1) The case has a perspex window. It looks great but suspect it will scratch fairly soon.

2) The dust covers while they look great are a little floppy and can misalign given there isnt a recess for them to 'sit' in.

3) The PCI covers are disposable i.e. once removed cant be placed back. An mATX motherboard used slot 2 not 1 so choose carefully before you break them (ahem). I ended up breaking them all and bought some removable covers on Amazon here.

The case looks great, especially when used with a Modular PSU and a horizontal CPU cooler. Nice SSD/HDD options. Nice compact size

yeah but the op does not specify that no one uses it. Of course there will be some people who uses an optical drive for their pc.but that does not represent the majority. even consoles are now being sold without optical drives. why too busy picking on what it doesn't have than what it can offer? if you want an optical drive then its a simple matter of looking into something that has it instead of moaning about a product that does not have it

yes vinyl and cassettes are still out there, but you don't go to apple and complain why the IPOD does not play vinyl or cassettes. people who still uses them buy the device they need to play their media and not complain to samsung that their new mobile phone or laptop does not play cassettes or vinyl.

a) He wasn't responding to the OP
b) He wasn't moaning about a product that does not have it - he was responding to someone that was suggesting nobody needed one.

The only CD rot (or bronzing) I have had is with audio CDs from Phonogram and other respected companies. Data discs might need reburning after, say, 10 years although I have media from the early 90s which still works flawlessly.
Just have an external USB DVD drive in a cupboard. Problem solved.

I've done this for perhaps 5 years and I've probably used it twice.

Hard to believe the concept of one person replying to specific quoted words of another person is too difficult to understand. Oh well.
FYI, for anyone interested, this case is an oven, really bad air circulation, 20C+ extra compared to other similar cases.

Are you still in that closed loop? The thread goes all the way back to anewman who made a statement which got a response then the response got a response and only at this point is when your brain begins to register things.

Air flow really that bad??
Shame cause I was about to buy, but if air flow is an known issue I best not risk getting my expensive parts fried then..

I'm using the Masterbox Lite, another case from CM often commented on for poor airflow and it seems fine to me (temps well within acceptable ranges while gaming). I think it depends on what your expectations are, will you be cramming in a huge power hungry GPU & CPU and then go and overclock them? Probably best to get a different case, but are you building a fairly 'sedate' budget rig running at stock frequencies (i.e., Ryzen 3/5 and an RX 580/equivalent?) if so, I imagine it'll be ok, it has been with me.

I've returned mine, only using stock items with 1070 and i7-3770 and compared to very similar Anker case, Q300L was 20C+ more at basic work. Since I'm using Oculus with my 1070 it was getting way too hot in there.
