Plan and explore only. Not navigation. Pointless. You can get good full navigation apps like Navfree instead.

The app allows navigation, just does not give you vocal turn by turn instructions or 3D mapping. It's not bad for nothing.

It's not great for nothing either. A navigation app without voice is not that useful.
Wasn't this always free?

always been free

I tried this a while ago and unless you upgrade to voice navigation then on a journey you have to keep refreshing it otherwise it stays static.

Any tips for free navigation abroad without needing internet connection?

navfree is the best all round offline navigation. Loads of maps from many countries. Always good to install anyway for when you have no data service. Look it up.

Nokia here maps ...free,offline and all countries are included

I use maps.me and it works great. Just back from Portugal and was no problem.
Free, offline and all countries. For Android and iOS

I've tried Waze, Google Maps, NavFree, TomTom App, & Nokia Here.

I used to prefer Waze, however, I've gone off it recently due to repeated failures to steer me around traffic congestion. I now regard traffic data as essential, & nothing beats Google Maps for getting me to my destination quickest, as long as I've got a data connection.

For all round ability, when data connection is patchy, Nokia Here is my favourite. Maps are downloaded to my MicroSD card, traffic data is available. Superb App, doesn't make sense that it's free, it's much too good to be free, but is.

No free GPS navigation works offline without any data connection I tried all including NAVFREE, SYGIC, Copilot

Navfree works offline, but you do have to download the map over wifi once to get the maps obviously.

It says "Plan and explore with free offline maps, route planning and directions."

So that means you just need GPS on your phone and it'll work without data connection?

Yep. Offline maps means no data connection required to navigate.

I've been using this product in one form or another for years now and can honestly says it's great. I've never had any issues with it.

Rubbish. NavFree & Nokia Here work offline.

Co Pilot and waze and Nav free all have their good points and bad points. Waze traffic info is useful via data connection, but co pilot works well for me I use all 3 and now use waze for traffic and copilot as a back up. It is amazing how often these things crash/freeze when you are getting near an important junction of complicated bit of the route or round about. Having the second one running in the back ground has saved me a few times. I am about to go to france and will see what the maps there are like. I do know a chap who followed his upto date satnav and was directed to a road in France by their motorway, but it had not actually been completed yet, so he had to work out how to get back another way ,but the satnav kept trying to take him down the same road. He was using a paid for system.

I want to know if you can use Amazon coins to upgrade to the full version.

NavFree is great, but the voice is soooo irritating!

Mapfactor Navigator is another good free offline satnav. It has more countries than Nokia here maps and navfree.

Yes you can, that's how I did it. Works out slightly cheaper as I had some free coins and the bundle I bought from amazon was worth more than I paid for it at the time.

Thanks for confirming. So when you press the button to purchase the full version it gives you the option to pay with the coins? I was wary of trying in case it went straight to charging my card.

CoPilot used to be the only navigation software that could plan multi-drop routes - can it still do this?

Either great deal for those with more memory space than data allowance.

Poppycock. The only reason you would need a data connection for Co-Pilot is to use traffic updates, to do destination lookup from a web search or to check-in with social media.

We run Co-Pilot on a wi-fi only Nexus 7 without issue.

copilotgps.com/uk/…asp

Still way cheaper than the cheapest worthwhile stand alone device.

I use my TomTom or HERE Maps. Google maps is good but a pita with too many button presses to get started and sometimes you can get lost in the menu system, which is crap while you're driving.

I tried CoPilot once and it sent me a really stupid way so I ditched it.

Is the turn by turn navigation worth the 14 odd pound?

Free on iOS too

those bitching about sat nav
can go and A-Z map from the shop and see how that goes when your partner tells you the wrong exit
sat nav does not over rule common sense
copilot paid version is great map updates free and camera update regular. downloaded map so no need for data use just GPS (I have unlimited data)
I have tried free sat nav maps cracked versions had Tom Tom standalone

Recently itched my Paid CoPilot for the free Nokia Here.
Drove 800 miles to Alps with CoPilot and back with Nokia.
Much nicer interface - coPilot very fiddly to use on the go.
Nokia does nearly all for free and offers offline routing and traffic.
Lane guidance a bit better on CoPilot but I don't think it's £25 better.

I like to use my mobile & tab with satnav apps, & leave both running on the back seat of the car.

By continually ignoring instructions & letting them both constantly recalculate routes, its like having my ex wife & her mother as passengers again.

Cheers for confirming. Got over 2000 coins from last years promotions on here and nothing to spend them on so tempted to get this before they expire.

Cheers op just used over 2000 coins for the app and active traffic

Not true !

I have used sygic for years, maps update at home over wifi, you DO NOT need data connection when out and about. all maps, poi, voices etc held on SD card.

Cold, always been free up front, and also free on Play store. The iAP are a killer.

Get Here maps which has proper offline navigation all for free

What a silly thing to say.
Of course it is. I've used sat navs for years, from a stand alone unit to Google Maps/Waze/Navmii on my phone, and not once have I found the apps "not that useful" without the voice.

They are perfectly fine without the need for a voice guidance.

Too many buttons? What menu system?
1. You type in the address you need (into address bar)
2. Press the address (that usually pops up before you've even finished typing)
3. Press and hold the blue car icon for a could of seconds...and off you go.

Just 3 steps!
