Although I haven't tried these I have ordered two of them as the deal seems too good to pass up! The reviews are good and if they are good quality then they are about a quarter of the price of fancy French ones.....

Generally advised to list what is on offer, might be best to update your deal to reflect this

As in prices and list of products. Generically listing 'pans' doesn't cut it if you want heat

Original Poster

Ah, the heat will distribute faster as they are copper!

Do copper pans last longer?

Original Poster

Any decent pan (not non stick) should still be 'working' after 20 years. Ones with plastic handles etc won't last as long. I would expect these to last.

To be fair, the deal link does show this.

I know it does but the first thing people will always say is to include the list of products available so you can see what you are getting. Otherwise it can be voted cold unnecessarily (heat added regardless)

I fancy some... they look good although my mum dropped one of these and it broke! lol.. only thing that puts me off!!

I've already had the snip...

I have the stock pot from this range and it's brilliant, excellent for jam and fudge making. I would be tempted to buy these pans if it wasn't for the fact that the copper pans cannot go in a dishwasher, does anyone know why this is?

Yes - YOU are the first one to ask it!

Hope the last longer that the Cooks Collection copper bottomed pas that lasted me 2 months before the copper base seperated from the pan!

Original Poster

You should have called the coppers!

These look great. Doesn't matter what price the pans are though, they'll only be a good deal if they last, true with most things but especially with pans as they should be built to last a long time. Should be able to get decades of use out of them.

Like most things in this country they would have come with a 12 month guarantee!!!

There ain't that many parts to break on these....

Very misleading, should say "Copper plated". It's stainless steel pan with a thin layer of copper on the outside.

If someone sold you a gold ring and it turned out to be gold plated, would you be happy?

Not if I wanted the pans

Wouldn't gold pans melt?

I think it's because copper is very reactive and also quite susceptible to heat distortion. Dishwashers are very hot, have stronger chemicals than washing up liquid and also very wet which can oxidise the copper. The pan would deteriorate over time in a dishwasher.

Washing up a couple of pans is not a huge amount of effort to be honest and do tend to take up a lot of space in a dishwasher. Always a good idea to give them a rinse down after you use them anyway, which will take most residue off them.

Copper is a soft and malleable metal, when exposed to a dishwasher the temp for Pots and Pans is usually about 75 Degrees as such it will cause the metal to easily warp or dent easily. the small bits of salt hitting the pan will cause denting, and the heat can warp to the bottoms as so they are no longer flush.

Also copper bottom pans generally are glued on with a special high temp resistant glue, a dishwasher can get water into the bottom and cause the glue to split.

Copper pans are lined with another metal ( tin I think ). They have to be re-lined when the copper shows through as copper will poison the food being cooked and you will end up with copper poisoning. I remember that we used to send pans away for repairing when I worked in the kitchen.

How could a pan not be able to stand 75 degrees? The pan would get to well over 100 at its base just to boil water and more like 500 for frying.

Copper pans are stainless lined nowadays, not tin.

Copper is like aluminium and doesn't like salts and chemicals in dishwashers.

Pans like this are for show. Not enough copper to get its benefits. Proper ones cost a fortune.

cheers will do nicely with my new Sony Z3 copper
