Corsair k65 mechanical keyboard (Cherry MX red ) - £57.94 @ Ballicom

This is the cheapest I've seen for this keyboard. The lowest price I've seen it before was £59.99 at ebuyer (and quickly went to £69.99... so probably was a pricing error).

Some of the plus points (from my point of view)
* Short keyboard (I rarely use the num pad)
* The arrow keys don't have other keys around them (like on some the CoolerMaster short keyboards) as it's very easy to hit other keys as you're using the arrow keys.
* The pleasure of cherry switches
* Very easy to clean
* All keys have mechanical switches (except the window lock key).

Note: the image in Ballicom is from the US version (with the small enter key), but they sell the UK version (product code CH-9000040-UK) which has a big enter key.

If you want a numpad, check this other HUKD post: hotukdeals.com/tag/dea…742

I wish there were more places to try keyboards and mice out. Just PC World/Currys really, and their selection in-store isn't up to much. I've heard good things about mechanical keyboards, among others, but I can't test what any of them are like.

Seems like a good price for a TKL without backlight. Not an amazing deal but still good, voted hot

I suggest you guys to invest in a switch tester so you would roughly know what you want to buy:D I own brown

Coolermaster Ultimate quickfire has Cherry brown (at least that is what i have) look out for a good deal on it, got mine for £70 on sale, maybe you can get it lower.

I have this keyboard and love it, but I did replace the keycaps with 'double shot key caps' to bring perfection to otherwise well made sturdy board.

I saw on Sky News that some company is releasing a ZX Spectrum clone bluetooth keyboard. Surely the best keyboard ever made.

Try this I got one recently helped me choose which switch I preferred.

I went for one of these for work:

ebuyer.com/670…rwn

It took me a while to justify spending that much. And then I bought a second for home a month later.

Arh if they sell the us version easier to get pbt keycaps as widely available while with the uk layout more rare.

Nice keyboard for gaming, although I couldn't do without a numpad.

Still, heat.

I saw a forum were they would post that device to people around the world so they could test it, once they have tested it they would post it on to someone else. An idea there for ya :P it's almost useless after you decide which switch you like. i would like to test the browns myself, although pcworld maplin etc dont often have mech keyboards on display.

wtf...Half a keyboard.

I prefer wide L/R shift, wide backspace and large enter keys. My usa keyboard has these and you soon get used to usa keyboards.

I have a corsair K60 at home and I really like the feel of the red switches... it can be that browns are better for a lot of typing, but I got used to type on red switches :).

And I'm getting this keyboard for work rather than for home/gaming (no numpad = no arma ... but I don't play arma at work :))

How much are you willing to spend? And are you looking for a tenkeyless or regular model? I ask because I've just gone through a fair few brown options and settled on a Filco after 2 weeks of deliberation.

Can you quickly explain why and what the double shot key caps change? Had a quick google but seemed pretty vague.

£50 ish and tenkeyless. I suppose blues might be a good alternative to browns but not sure if I'd find the clicks annoying or not..:)

It depends where you intend on using them, blues aren't good for an office filled with people. This is the cheapest brown keyboard I found along the way Coolermaster

Ordered one - cheers guys! Can't wait.

Good price but wrong colour switches for me.

Does anyone know of any Linux compatible mechanical keyboards with Cherry Brown switches? I've been looking for a full size one that has UK layout with a number pad, but I don't mind if it has any macro keys or LEDs or not. The Roccat stuff is all I have found so far with any Linux support, so I just wondered if anyone had come across any others?

I suggested this earlier:

Can't help you with confirming the Linux support though.

Yeah I saw, and thanks. I have read some good things about the QPad. It's based on Tesoro's Durandal G1N mechanical keyboard isn't it? If I did go for one of these two I'd probably go for the cheaper option as I'm unlikely to need any of the added extras for the extra cost. The Tesoro is £49.99 right now on Amazon with red switches (brown are sold out).

Linux support is important to me though, it doesn't matter how good the keyboard is if it doesn't work due to drivers not being available! As I only spend about 20% of my time using Windows that would be a problem. Thanks anyway though.

Sure, well a few things, the standard keycaps are made of cheap plastic and the legends will fade quickly and then ware off, with double shots the legends are actual plastic so will never ware out, also they are generally made of superior and stronger/thicker so feel more sturdy, also the ones I chose have a very slight bevel on the edges compared to the default ones that feel sharp on the edges.

After a lot of research I went for iso double shots from a wyse keyboard, found an old one cheap on ebay in top condition, make sure you get the correct model that did use cherry mx switches and they fit the same.

You will have to keep the original space bar as it is an odd size on this corsair.
They also make a far nicer sound, I guess to the better quality materials.

I hope this has helped.

What a brilliant response, thanks!

I received mine today.. It's quite confusing to not have the numpad. For some reason my hands keep shifting more to the left and hitting the wrong keys :). At the same time I LOVE the short keyboard, definitely more comfortable than the full one as the mouse is in a more comfortable place.
