Just checked its fully compatible with M2 2280, should probably run at full speed
Ive been out of the pc building crowd for years so im feeling way out of touch and wondering is someone can help me. Would this work with 'ASUS Z97-P 1x Gen3 PCIe x16, 1x Gen2 PCIe x16, 2x PCIe x 1 & 2x PCI' Or am i best just getting a standard SSD? i want to use it for my OS and gaming.

The Asus z170-e has pcie3 x4 m.2 slots so you will have full speed

Your motherboard supports pcie 2 x4 m.2s so it will roughly work at half the speed of the drive. Much faster than sata though.
