lolwut? Oh, you must have tried every single mechanical switch ever made then.

That's some pretty low energy trolling.

I've got this keyboard and am very happy with it. Its really easy to program the keys on the left hand side and the red lights are cool at night

same agree

Cheers, bought.

Spend a bit more and buy a mechanical keyboard.
There are often deals for decent ones from time to time such as the thirty quid roccat suora from Maplin last week, or the masterkeys pro for sixty five quid last month.

The silver key paint on WSAD keys started peeling on last one I had of these, seems a fairly common issue

reds/blues. Both suck compared to any membrane one I've ever used. There's a reason mech's are trying to imitate the membrane KB feels.

Erm, no they don't. Where did you get that insane idea from?

You do realise there are hundreds of types of mechanical switch right? Just because you've used some horrible ones doesn't mean they're all like that. Why would you want to game on a mushy membrane switch? They're awful.

PC “wizards” harking back to 1980s don’t appreciate the sweet damping effect of a membrane. We’ve moved on from the Industrial Age chaps.

Yeah, I've only tried 2 of the most popular (liked) switches - how can you objectively call them terrible? These were the best rated keyboard I tried at the time.
Because I don't have different keyboards for gaming/typing. I have zero issues gaming/typing on a single membrane keyboard but had issues typing on reds and gaming on blues.
Ofcourse there are hundreds available if morons are willing to pay a ridicilous prices for no reason. Laws of economics.

I paid the same price as this membrane keyboard for my brown switch keyboard, having used both I can tell you the mechanical switch is superior for gaming. Especially in e-sports where roll-over and ghosting are issues.

I use brown too for the good mix of typing and gaming at home. When I have to go to the office I use an ok keyboard that does a good job of imitating mechanical without the noise.

Yes reds felt nice for gaming. Really hated them for typing. Membranes for me are the perfect middle ground.

I would give up now. Anyone willing to refer to a load of people with a different opinion as morons isn't really worth discussing things with.

And what type of keyboard are we discussing? A gaming keyboard.

I rest my case.

No. Just no. I've had two mechanical keyboards and just went back to a membrane last week and cannot recommend it enough. Most Mechanical keyboards are like Bose audio, over-hyped to f***.

What switch would you recommend for a combination of gaming and typing? For use at home 70/30 gaming over typing. Looking for a new mechanical keyboard but there are so many variables. TIA

I agree with him largely. Although the Cherry MX Silent is a nice switch, I just think they aren't worth it. And I'm a member of the PC Master Race like yourself

What opinion? Its a fact that mech KBs are many times more expensive than membranes for no tangible gain. You won't suddenly perform better in games.

There is a mech keyboard on here right now for less than this membrane keyboard.

Cherry mx or Gateron as the brand and brown or black as the colour work well for me.
Those who don't smash their keys like I do may prefer red rather than black.

I would add a note of caution that the very cheapest Chinese mechanical keyboards with cheap blue switches are probably terrible.

I've tried a couple of cheap mechanical keyboards that were fine. As long as they use cherry switches and not their own you at least know what you are getting.

Very true! I was at a LAN party last week with 8 people and only two of us preferred membrane. The other dude is the best player in all the FPS's we play (Global Elite on CSGO etc) and we both just cannot see why people prefer them other than the "elite attitude" towards them. It's almost like the Apple effect, because it's more expensive people just assume they're better (in my opinion).

Most people prefer mechanical keyboards.

I don't!

Let's be clear.
Most people will be perfectly fine with a standard membrane / rubber dome keyboard.
A mechanical keyboard will not necessarily make you a better gamer or a better typist.

However, mechanical keyboards are superior for a variety of reasons.
Pretty much all mechanical keyboard owners that are known to me have indicated they would not revert back to a non mech.
It's one of those things where you have to try it for a bit and then you'll know. However, I am fairly certain that once you've tried one, you won't go back either.

I have the K40 which looks the same but has RGB lighting, I'm not that happy with it, it's as if it's trying too hard to be a mechanical when it isn't, the keys are quite stiff and when touch typing there's alot of times a key refuses to press down first time, which is also bad in gaming when I miss a command I wanted to do at the exact time, the software for the lighting and macros was last updated in 2013 and looks incredibly tacky aswell.

In all I'd either prefer a real mechanical or on the opposite end of the spectrum, a slim key design, will probably be taking mine down to CEX and popping in the local Maplins to get something not as annoying to type on.
