Good price for a quality PSU. Only slightly more than the RM550X I was planning on getting, 10 year warranty.

  • 80 PLUS Gold Certified: High efficiency operation for lower power consumption, less noise and cooler temperatures
  • Tuned for Low Noise Operation: A specially set fan curve ensures that, even at full load, fan noise is kept to a minimum
  • Zero RPM Fan Mode: At low and medium loads the cooling fan switches off entirely for near-silent operation
  • 100% All Japanese Capacitors: Premium internal components ensure unwavering power delivery and long-term reliability
  • Fully Modular, Flat Cables: Flexible fully modular, flat white cables for easy cable routing

The same price at Overclockers but they have P&P on top...

Any idea why they switched from braided to flat cables with this newer version?

My guess would be cos of the new trend of cases to get all the cables via the back of the board.

I have a braided one and struggled to close the back of the case.

If you mean the new RM 2019 series then that does not replace the RMx (this), the RM 2019 is cheaper and worse than the RMx/RMi so comes with cheaper cables.

No, I meant this 2018 version comes with flat cables and the 2017 version of the RMx had the braided ones. They are much better for tidying, and most cases come with extra room at the back to get them through. I suspect it was a cost cutting measure as they sell the braided cables standalone for about £40.

Just checked mine, you are partly right, only the Molex and Sata are straight cables (which I havn't used) the rest are braided.

I wonder why they don’t mention that in the description. It was the reason I didn’t buy it in the end and went with the EVGA G2 and cable extensions.
The time has come. Pulled the trigger. Don't even need 750W, let's call it "futureproofing"

It's a great price; what's stopping me is that this is quite a lot more power than I need, so the load will be low and the efficiency poor. I hope something closer to the 550W area comes up...
Great price. Hard to find any other PSU that comes with white cables in the box

I believe the fans don't kick in until 40% load, so you'd have a pretty silent rig if a 550W would be "more efficient". Surely running a lower load on a higher rated PSU is more efficient?
