Worth checking if this fits your computer before you buy. Otherwise you …Worth checking if this fits your computer before you buy. Otherwise you have wasted your money. And you will get frustrated when it doesn't work. Ask yourself: is this good for my laptop - or is it just for desktop PCs?Should I go for DDR3 or DDR4?Do I have the technical skills to open up my rig & take out the old RAM & put in this fancy new RAM?What is my fallback plan if things go wrong?Crucial.co.uk memory scan is your best friend.

I’m just going to download some RAM instead, thanks for the pointers!

Not everyone who buys ram is 100% tech savvy so I'm sure this is helpful for those people.

And crucial scan is a good tool to identify appropriate ram for a system, without having to buy from crucial themselves.

Seriously - its a couple of plastic clips ... anyone who has a PC should know how to do this and not fry their Motherboard.

not if they're as old as I am

you youngsters think it's easy because you grew up with it

I regularly upgrade all our PCs as regards RAM (to get the kids doing stuff faster) so have enough experience - but it is quite daunting the first few times when you have to work out what to do

I might have posted in jest but there is a serious point - upgrading RAM is not intuitive, it needs training/ information as to what to buy & what to do inside the case

Agreed I’ve witnessed the older generation open the pc and try to switch out the ram as it’s running, so they can,”see the difference” just because it’s easy doesn’t mean everyone can do it 👌

Absolutely.
I could do it with my eyes closed but that's because I've grown up with it and been a hardware enthusiast for the last 10 years.

I can definitely see how it would be daunting for anyone with no experience.
All these terminologies must seem totally alien. DDR3, DDR4, SODIMM, dual channel, 240/288 pin.
On top of that which slot do you occupy.
During installation you have to check orientation before applying pressure.
Apply a firm amount of pressure until it clicks but be careful not to let it slip to one side and damage/break the module.
It's a piece of cake. Do you also do guides for installing water cooling?

Works perfectly, great price.

Well, training can mean many things such as watching a YouTube video or asking somebody who knows.

I agree with your central tenet, ie follow your nose, use your brain, use any resource out there such as crucial.co.uk memory scan, don't frack up ie do disconnect electricity before doing anything and put it in the right way, always good advice in life lol

Actually - keep the PC plugged in and powered off - The benefit of having ground is a valid reason to leave it connected (especially if you're connecting a grounding strap to it or grounding yourself to the case). Additionally, the only voltages you'll find outside of the PSU are 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, for the most part, and they aren't nearly enough to shock you. Maybe...*maybe* if you licked your motherboard with it running, you'd feel something.

Just don't go opening up the PSU when it is plugged in ...
DDR4 RAM for £90 not bad and check with motherboard's manufacturer RAM compatibility with CMK8GX4M2B3000C15.
£680 for 8GB.

Expensive.

what are you on about?
What are you on about?
You state memory in bytes, not bits.
Was thinking of getting this but then would need new mobo and new CPU too...

As I don't game nor do any major encoding... Then no real point...

But for market value is hot...
....that reminds me.... would need a new cooler too.

If you are looking at these RAM modules and are asking yourself questions like it this good for my Laptop and if I should go for DDR3 or DDR4 then you are probably better buying a pre-built PC.

This is not even for a Laptop so that's would be a No, and in most situations you don't have a choice between DDR3 or DDR4, that decision is made for you by the CPU/motherboard you have.

Also the LP in the LPX stands for Low Profile so it should fit your motherboard without interfering with the CPU cooler.

However I do agree it is a good idea to check compatibility before buying, specially if you own a Ryzen based system, that still has compatibility issues with some RAM speeds and the architecture is designed where the RAM speed affects performance more than Intel based systems.
