Been hunting around for deals on Maplin's closing down sale and came across this it's actually the best price i've seen on this type of ram.

Plus it will come in handy in a older DDR3 system I have in a cupboard to bring back to life!

Voted hot, even though memory prices are crazy at the moment.
£100 seems like a lot to spend on RAM which is on its way to obsoletion.

Unfortunately it's now 2018 and RAM prices have sky rocketed!

I purchased some DDR4 16gb for £40 on Amazon in 2016.

This is the price now sadly and for those that need ram, is the best they'll get it for new right now.

It’s looking likely to stay this way until 2020 when the new factories open which hopefully will start to address the production capacity issue with all solid state memory.

Got to ask yourself why would memory manufacturers want to change the status quo?

To increase/protect their market share. Economics suggests when existing suppliers have excess profits and aren't satisfying demand, other players will seek to undercut them.

The problem with that analysis is to become a new player in the memory market would require tens of billions investment with no guarantee of return as by the time you get inventory out of the door 3 to 5 years down the line, market conditions could have changed and existing manufacturers would probably increased supply to keep the new incumbent out.

The first one to bring prices down would probably win a big increase in market share. I know what you are getting at though, this could have been avoided as I remember reading articles predicting this at least 4 years ago.

Unlikely. If someone lowers their prices then the others will follow. But none of them will because there is still big demands for DRAM.
If this were DDR4, it'd be a good deal.
DDR3 though?!?! You gotta be kiddin'

On ebay or CEX you'll find the same for £60.

"but that's 2nd-hand"

Maplin is in administration; everything is sold-as-seen, you have absolutely no recourse for faulty goods, only Manufacturer's warranty.

Whilst I agree with you, Corsair warranty service is fantastic. Any issues and Corsair would sort it out, so there’s no need to worry about buying it from a retailer soon to be closed.

Manufacturers warranty is usually as good if not better than anything the store would honour, if a little less convenient. But in this case, Corsair do lifetime warranty on their RAM so there is really no issue.

Just posted a deal for Corsair LPX 16GB at pretty much this price. Best I could find after the patriot ram got cancelled. In stock too!

Did Maplin not go bust?

They did but due to there overstock on everything and reluctance to lower prices they are STILL closing down

Yes they do. .. but my reply was aimed at miners and the price hikes on gfx cards..
