I've been researching bbqs for a few weeks and decided on a Napoleon.
I also wanted an infrared ceramic side burner for searing.
The Rogue SE range of Napoleons matched my needs, but were around £1,600 plus original cover around £90.
I then came across this Costco deal. I got in touch with the manager of Napoleon UK to check that this Napoleon LEX, which doesn't appear on Napoleon's UK website wasn't just a cheap licenced product, or made to a lower spec. He explained that the main difference is the firebox on the LEX is made from stainless steel, whereas the UK model have cast aluminium firebox. He said there would be no difference in longevity. He also told me that the Costco buy the LEX model direct from their parent company in Canada and as its a global deal, they can sell them at such a low price (about half price).
He also said that the Costco line will sell out quickly.
I thought this was very helpful of him as it potentially took a sale away from the UK arm of Napoleon.
As well as the features below, if you lift the left hand shelf lid, there's a chopping board which covers an ice bucket/marinade tub. The only thing that's not included is an actual rotisserie, which is a shame as it has a rotisserie burner, but at this price, it's a great deal. The part number for the heavy duty, powered rotisserie is 69213 available at many stockists.

Features:

  • 3 Main burners: 16.000 BTU (British Thermal Unit) per burner
  • 1 Infrared searing side burner: 12,500 BTU
  • 1 Rear rotisserie burner: 13,500 BTU
  • Chrome plated warming rack
  • 304 stainless steel flame tamers
  • 430 Stainless steel grill hood
  • 430 Stainless steel control panel, doors, side shelf facings
  • Galvanised powder coated steel cart body, side shelf surface, rear panel
  • Primary cooking area: 3,129 cm² (485 in²)
  • Warming Rack: 1,226 cm² (190 in²)
  • Cover included
  • Requires 13 kg propane gas tank (not included)
  • 15 year limited warranty

If nothing else, this deserves a positive vote for the effort of the original poster in ringing up and speaking to the manager of Napoleon UK.

And also for how helpful the said manager was.

Saw this during my research for a new grill over the last few weeks. I was very tempted by the price for the brand, but I had a look at the assembly instructions of this one vs the old Lex models (both appear to be the LEX485). The heat spreaders don’t cover the whole width of the BBQ, and I suspect might result in an uneven heat distribution at the grill. It might be fine, but it looks to me like this is the same body as the four burner version, but with one fewer burners, spread further apart.

I eventually (after a lot of research and internal debate) stumped for the 5 burner Rogue SE. It is superb, but more than twice the price. It’s going to need to last the entire 15 year warranty!

The newer versions have also changed the design of the flame tamers completely. No idea what difference it makes, but I doubt they’d have done it if it didn’t improve the heat spread.

Napoleon make fantastic barbecues, and this price is an absolute steal, so I hope I’m wrong. My main driver for a new BBQ was my old one heated woefully unevenly, so was a priority for me.

The Rogue SE was my first choice initially, but price was so high the plan was to wait until after summer in the hope for a sale. But after getting in touch with the UK manager (via email) and his reply being " I do know the Costco line will sell through soon so you may want to consider buying this while it’s still in stock," I decided to purchase this one.
My last bbq only had 2 burners, albeit much smaller and I didn't cook any items large enough to cross over the gaps between the burners, so I think it should be ok for me, especially as I plan to get the rotisserie for larger things like a whole chicken.
The wider gaps may help with cooking different foods that require different temperatures. Although, of course, this could be achieved with turning a burner off to create a large gap if required.

I have a newer 2 year old outback and it's crap in comparison to a quality bbq imho, I have a 18 year old broil king cooks far better, better heat distribution (no hot spots) but is on it's last legs hence the outback but lasted 9x longer than the outback which is tarnishing after 2 years - you get what you pay for £500 18 years ago was a fair amount for a bbq but well worth it compared to some of the bbq's that are not built to last, cast iron/porcelain coated grills etc, definetely agree that some make cooking difficult some are a dream

Great bbq. The infrared side burner is amazing for steaks. Can't fault it overall. I bought the commercial rotisserie kit, charcoal tray and smoker box as well.

Not used it massively yet, but what I have cooked on it has been great.

    Bargain at this price.

Hmmm, I’m going to sell my Traeger Pro34 as I just don’t use it - I’ve an Outback gas grill and an Aldi Kamado which work for me.

Now tempted to bin the Outback and replace with the Napoleon or the MasterBuilt prosmokebbq.co.uk/col…102 - any thoughts on either?

Napoleon will outlast the masterbuilt by several years, even with studious care. However, that masterbuilt will almost certainly do smoking better, but not as well as the Komodo. It’s really about use case. If it was my money, I’d go Napoleon. If charcoal is important to you, Napoleon offer a charcoal tray that is absolutely fantastic. Can “cook” on the gas side, then finish on the charcoal tray for that authentic flavour.

Incidentally, I ditched my outback for the Napoleon Rogue SE and the difference is astounding. My outback just didn’t get hot enough, was woefully uneven. I didn’t realise how much harder I was making life for myself

i'm so tempted to sell my Nexgrill and get this one.. always wanted a napoleon but was out of my price range so settled on the Nexgrill 7 Burner Costco Deal a couple of years back.. just hope there is a market for used BBQ's!?
    Norma.Snockers's avatar
    Norma.Snockers
Why not the Nexgrill, or even the kitchenaid? You can get a 4 burner for the cost of the Napoleon. The reviews say the Napoleon is built in China rather than the US and has the steel box over the Ally which was mentioned by the poster. Serious question, am really tempted by the Napoleon too

Hey, good info in this thread. Does anyone know if it comes with wheels? I’ll need to store it away from the garden, so for every use, it’ll need moving across 10m of cobble driveway & 15m of lawn.

Obviously don’t want to have screws falling out after a couple of years. I see Napoleon sell heavy duty wheels but it’s not clear if they’re compatible with this.

Reading the instructions, it does have 4 caster wheels. I have no idea about if any heavy duty wheels are compatible I'm afraid.
