Credit to Deano467 for posting the 8GB Vado HD at £49.99, but I think this one is actually a better deal, as it is £10 less and includes a free 2nd battery, as well as the HDMI cable.

4GB memory is enough to record 1 hour at the maximum HD+ setting, or 2 hours at the standard HD setting, which should be sufficient for most purposes.

Weighing just 100g, bring this ultra-lightweight pocket video cam with you anywhere you go and be ready to shoot anytime with its one-touch recording button. For an incredibly small video cam, you'll be amazed by how the Vado HD is able to capture quality videos of up to 1280 x 720p resolution. Entertain friends and family as you play back all your videos on your HD TV today!

Catch the perfect snowboarding stunt, your baby's first steps or your kid's graduation, share it online and save it for a lifetime with Creative's Vado HD Pocket Video Cam. Sharing videos online is simple with built-in software that helps you post videos to YouTube, Photobucket or Box.net. The Vado HD is the only pocket video cam to feature true HDMI connectivity via an optional HDMI cable (sold separately) for a superior viewing experience on an HDTV. Take the Vado HD Pocket Video Cam with you everywhere you go and never miss a moment. Product specs include 720p high-definition video, wide-angle glass lens, 2x digital zoom, 4GB of video storage capacity, up to two hours of recording and playback per charge, up to four hours of recording time at 640x480 at 30 frames per second, HDMI and RCA connections for TV (HDMI cable and A/V cable sold separately), removable and rechargeable lithium battery, Vado Central software for simple video editing and sharing.

Vado HD will work with Windows XP (service pack 2) or Vista, and will also work with a Mac via iMovie and a download of Vado Central.

Large screen
The Creative Vado HD boasts a large 2" LCD screen to view what you're shooting giving you a better view of all the action as you record it. It enables you to review your videos whilst you're out, with a simple click of the play button.

Vado Central software enables you to quickly
edit and load videos to YouTube

Shoot it
Simply click to start and stop recording with a one-button recording function. Capturing videos really could not be easier, simply point and shoot! Feel that the clip could be better? Instantly review and delete it if necessary with the user-friendly interface, and simply take a second shot.

Share it
Upload your videos onto popular web sites such as YouTube, Photobucket or box.net instantly with the built-in Vado Central software! Share your day's fun and laughter with your family and friends!

High-definition video quality
Capture all your fun moments at an HD video resolution of up to 1280 x 720p! It also works great in dimly-lit environments. Most pocket camcorders record in lower than HD resolution, which is ok for the web, but when viewed on a large high definition television the lack of quality is apparent. With Vado HD you get high definition 720p quality recording, so your videos look great on a large TV.

Record all you want
The 4GB* internal memory (includes built-in software) and three recording modes give you the freedom to choose the video quality according to usage scenarios. If you want to have the maximum amount of recording time, you can record up to 4 hours of videos at VGA resolution. The lower VGA resolution will still look good on smaller PC screens or if you want to load videos to the web. At the higher end of the spectrum you can also record up to an hour of footage in stunning HD quality. If you want to watch your videos on your HDTV (HDMI cable not included), then this is the choice for you.

If you need more than 4GB of memory, there is also an 8GB version.

Wide-angle glass lens
Capture wider scenes and more action in your videos with the wide-angle glass lens. The precision-engineered glass lens produces sharper and clearer images, giving you professional-looking videos. You can also get a close-up of the action with the 2x digital zoom feature.

Comes with a built-in flexible USB connector

Removable, rechargeable battery
The rechargeable Lithium-ion battery packs up to 2 hours of battery life** (actual battery life will vary with use) giving you ample freedom to capture all the fun and exciting moments. Need more juice? Just get an additional battery. You can also get a battery charger if you wish to.

Built-in flexible USB connector
The built-in flexible USB connector lets you connect to any computer easily without the need for messy cables. It is also extremely useful when using notebooks or PCs with awkwardly-built USB ports. When connected to your computer via the USB connector, the Vado HD will also recharge its battery.

High-quality video compression
The latest H.264 video compression technology provides unprecedented video quality at ultra-efficient file sizes for the best possible viewing experience. Record up to 4 times more videos, compared to MPEG-4 encoded ones.

Playback on your HD TV
Embrace the HD experience with Vado HD. Connect your Vado HD to any HDTV via a HDMI cable (not included) to enjoy big screen viewing and the best home theatre experience ever. HDMI cables offer the best possible audio and video connection quality to make sure you make the most out of your high definition videos.

* 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Available capacity will be less. Reported capacity will vary. ** Actual battery life will vary with use. Battery has limited recharge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced.

Box Contains
Creative Vado HD 4GB pocket video camcorder
HDMI cable
USB extension cable
2 x Li-ion rechargeable battery pack
Quick start leaflet
Vado Central software (video edit/transfer software) pre-loaded on the Vado HD

Pretty much a bargain at this price.

bewarned, this is the 2ng gen and not 3rd gen as amazon's glamour video suggests!

nice one, this will do nice for my hols!

Can't resist at this price, snapped one up.

Ordered and heat added thanks, This will replace the Kodak Zx1 that my son borrowed and seems unwilling to return

Given the price of the 3rd gen kit and good reviews this is a great price.

Although this has a second battery it has no separate charger. You'll either have to buy/ find one or charge the batteries in the device via USB - shouldn't be a big issue though.

You'll need a reasonably powerful laptop / pc to edit the video clips and some older devices or weedier netbooks might even struggle to playback the video - but this applies to all compressed HD recorders not just the Vado.

this does record at VGA as well.

Also... I wouldn't class the HDMI as "free", it's built into the product.

The mini HDMI socket is built in; but you need a cable to connect it to your HDMI device. The USB connector is built-in.

According to the c-net review it can record 640x480 VGA.

beat me to it, I bought first before posting it...check reviews very good.. cheap for 39.99

anyone reckon (based upon price only) that this is a good alternative to an ipod touch? got a budget of £50 (+ p&p) but cant seem to pick one up. Despite looking in shops locally or on ebay, etc. Cheapest i have seen is £80 and thats a bit to steep for a 1st gen 8gb.

What?

That's like asking is a banana a good alternative to an orange - both nothing like each other oO

ordered 3! one for my eldest for xmas, one for my sister's 18th birthday gift and then my dad asked to get him one to take on holiday!! not expecting anything amazing for the money, but it looks ok, and the online reviews are pretty good.

Does it have facility to use an external mic? Thanks.

ordered thanks..X)

lapse in concentration. Please excuse me.

Does anyone know if this comes with a free silicone skin like the 8GB version please?

nice find. it cancels my plan to buy an iphone 4.:D

Contemplating this. Does it have a stabiliser? I already have a Kodak Zx1 but I wonder if it's worth getting this and selling it. The Zx1 is good but poor in low light and shaky with moving video. I'll check out videos on YouTube...

Nah, not as good as the Zx1 (in my opinion), pick up a Zx1 if you can find one cheaper. For your information, here's a video I recorded with unedited (aside from the text titles I added) clips, showing the Zx1's quality. youtube.com/wat…Wtw

Unfortunately the Zx1 isn't great in low light, but you'll probably be wanting to take a handheld camera on holiday or something so it will usually be light conditions anyway, I would think.

No OIS then I take it, gave me a bloody 'eadache watchin' that.

(_;)

ordered. Thank you.

Good for the price, one ordered

The Zx1 uses a proprietary, non-USB cable, which is idiotic, in my opinion. Units like this that can just plug in to almost any PC without needing a cable at all are far better.

Speaking as someone who has mislaid his cable...

I've yet to see one of these dinky HD recorders that is.

But then, for the money they cost, it's hardly surprising. If you want mega zoom, great low light performance .... etc etc ..... you need to spend a bit more than the £50-£100 these things cost.

That said, a friend of mine has one (I think it's the Kodak one) and in good light, you do get excellent quality HD footage for the money.

Neilc - I ordered this when it was listed just a few weeks and it was £50 then which I thought was cheap. It did come with a clear silicone case.

Usage wise its pretty good, reasonable in low light - not brilliant. The zoom feature is a bit staggered/jerky. For £40 though you can't go wrong. Got it for the wife if she needs to use it rather than our normal Sony cam which is not always feasible to carry round. Fits in her hand bag and starts up quickly when needed to capture events - like the youngest taking his first few proper steps the other day.
I have charged it with a cheap usb/3pin plug convertor as otherwise you have to plug it into your pc/laptop to charge. The chargers on amazon are not for this particular model as far as I'm aware.

I might order another one at this price. Cheap as chips

Is this a rival to the Kodak and Flip, got a flip HD to someone for a present, used it for a recording (birthday message) and to be honest wasn't amazed by the product for the price.

Kodak seems cheap and has ability to add a bigger card which I have but no HDMI which seems a negative as like the idea of this one being able to connect to the TV with ease.

Anyone offer some additional advice or food for thought, at £40 this doesn't seem bad, even if you have to upload your footage more often than you would it had something able to take a 16gb card for example

ok i am condused, forgive my ignorance, hows this different from my digital camera videos, which when loaded to my laptop play in a small like box.If someone can be kind enough to explain woudl be very helpful. Is this the same quality as a standard full size videocam?

Never used the usb cable on my ZX1 because its much easier to take out the SD card and stick thst into the PC. Once the vado is full that's it you're screwed, unless you have a PC handy, (not often easy on holiday) with the ZX1 you can shoot as much as you want with extra sd cards.

but whats the quality of the video like on the ZX1

but whats the quality of the video like on the ZX1

Superb in daylight, rather grainy in evening and indoor light. You also need a steady hand for good results as neither the ZX1 or the Vado have an image stabilizer.

There are many example HD clips on youtube from both cameras to compare, although the clips will be slightly reduced quality (due to conversion to youtube format) than actually comes out the cam.

Thanks all, mine is shwqoing dispatched along with one of the micro cameras on HUKD from 7days.

Please can someone suggest a relatively easy-to-use editting programme that I'll be able to edit and transfer files onto DVD with?

You will loose all that HD loveliness by converting to DVD mpeg2 format, but if you must, you could use CyberLink PowerDirector 8 simple and powerful, or even simpler, ConvertXtoDVD which has little in the way of editing but is very quick at converting to DVD with menus.

Cheers toaster - don't want to lose to much quality if pos. what is the alternative please?

Is it to buy a media hd?

Hi, I received this today and picture quality is very good.
Everything has a pink tint to it though unfortunately...is there anything I can do to fix this?
I can't find any info on the troubleshooting section online.
Thanks in a advance.

Sounds like the white balance is on the wrong setting. All cameras have to compensate for either shooting indoors or outdoors, otherwise on the same white balance setting, a photo taken outside would be excessively blue and a photo taken indoors would be excessively pink/orange.

Most cameras set the white balance automatically, but a lot can also be set manually. Check if your camera has been set to an outside white balance, rather than being set to auto.

If it can't be changed then the camera is faulty and should be returned.

Hope this helps.

Hi and thanks for the info.

This camera can't be adjusted I'm afraid as no option or settings to do so will be returning as must be a fault with the balance as you say.

Thanks.
