Bought one of these when they were £54 and thought that was a bargin. This I believe is superb. The screen is excellent and so is the sound quality, if your going to buy this make sure you get some sort of screen protection as once you see it you won't wanna scratch it.

This is a great little player and for £49.99 it's even better. The best bit, of course is that you can add another 32GB via the SD slot.

Voted hot, even though I don't need one right now!

brill I didn't realise that, I might get this instead of the ipod classic I was looking at, it means I can spread the cost too buy the device one month & an extra 32GB card the next month

is it any good with playlists? I did like the way the playlists worked on my last Ipod as I have a lot of songs!

worto.

Hi worto03

You can create playlists on the zen or I find it easier via the software sat in front of the pc.

Thanks, you may have just found my son's birthday present!

thanks, I'm almost convinced but I think I'm gonna go to a shop and have a look at one on Saturday\Sunday then decide.

I like the idea of adding the extra memory, I was gutted when my ipod broke but if this breaks you've only lost half the amount because you can take the memory card out & use it in a new one

worto.

quick question - can I use two 16gb memory cards, say one with video & photos & one with music on then just swap between the two when I want to or is this not a good idea or possible?

Cheers,
worto.

I would think you can, however the problem that has never been corrected in the firmware of these players is that although its fantastic you can increase the storage capacity of them by adding a SDHC card, the contents can NEVER integrate with your players content.

It doesn't look like Creative want to correct it either, possibly because of them doing flash memory players in different sizes, people would just plump for the 4gb ones and up the memory by using SDHC cards. The problem still exists on the revision to this the Zen X-FI.

So any music that is stored in flash ram you can browse, and then you have to switch the content over to the SDHC card slot to browse the rest of your music.

This, along with the not so great build quality is what put me off getting this flash based player.

it's very possible!

PC World Price Match - they have it as £65. Little more of a saving.

strange - could you not get round this by ignoring the 4gb all together & storing all of your music on a 32 gig memory card - saving you the need to swap beteen the 2?

As for the upgradability - yes it does seem to give money away from creative to other manufacturers doesn't it, I'd buy this then give toshiba or kingston or whoever the other 50 notes for a 32gb card? Apple on the other get the lot.

I bought one of these from eBuyer a while ago but never managed to get any music on it due to a bug in the software with windows XP/Vista. I can't remember the exact details but I can remember trying to sync it with Windows Media player and it wouldn't list the player as connected and I also remember searching on t'internet and there were a few more cases.

Shame as it looked really nice.

The creative zen players are really buggy unless you have the latest firmware and software. If you download all the updates they are usually fine.

Voted Hot!

I too have the Zen in the 8GB size. I bought mine when it was over £100 and I have watched as the prices droped. :x A great player. Great screen too and I use my on the comute to watch movies or TV shows. The SD slot is handy but as others have mentioned you have to browse anything loaded on this card separately.:? Also get a screen cover. I found a very good quality cheap cover at Deal Extreme sku 3808. Here is the link.

That's a shame...looks like I'll have to plump for the Sandisk Fuze I saw on Play the other day. BTW, I'm loving the avatar cicobuff...the Chameleons are one of my faves.

Although by the time this breaks, the 32Gb card will be worth 1/4 of the value today. And you will probably want a bigger card to fit into the next generation player.

lol maybe - anyway can anyone answer this question yet about not being able to browse stuff stored locally as well as on card cuz if you can't work round that then I'm not going for this one.

I don't see why you wouldn't just ignore the 4gb all together?

edit -

are these brand new or refurbs???

It says in big red writing on your link - refurbished?

from the 1st post ;-)

SD Card (SD and SDHC) slot for memory upgrades

looked into buying this, got a sony a818 instead, I was not prepared to put up with a music player that I potentially had to reboot every so often...and] check this link.
I admit I'm not sure if a new firmware has fixed these problems but make sure you do your research before buying. Nothing worse than being frustrated by a ropey product (well OK there is but....you know what I mean!)

Can confirm you CANNOT browse onboard and SD card memory at the same time and by the looks of it you never will be, not with creative players..

Also , I can't imagine why you would want to ignore 4 whole GB's toget around this.. :?

Build quality wise they feel pretty flimsy - i remeber holdign one in a store and thinking it was a plastic dummy model but it was the real thing!

I only have 16gb woth of music so when I put a 32gb SD card in the 4gb will be pretty much useless to me, I'd prefer to ignore it or just stick photos on it or something & have all my music in one place. I think you've confirmed I can do this even if you think I am a bit mental

Yeah it's hard to get an idea of build quality on the internet so I'm trying to find somewhere with one in stock so I can go & have a look on the way home - it'll have to wait until Sunday if not,

Thanks for the info,
worto.

My daughter has one, I would say that it is easier to put video on SD card and keep music on the inbuilt memory as you have to convert video anyway then its eaiser to convert first and then transfer to SD card.

Anyway my daughter loves it, got a charger from ebay, and a cheap dock (not specific) from Argos and she has it on virtually constantly, battery life is great and sounds good.

Wise choice, I did exactly the same, most robust and best sounding little player on the market..if you can live without radio and playlists on the fly the Sony A810 series can't be beat.

just ordered one, BIG THANKS! HOT! HaHa!

A great mp3 player. What lets it down big time is the poor integration with the SD card. They could have sold these in the thousands if they'd got it right.

the sd card "integration" is the reason i got this little player. i love it.

the player portion of the memory i use to store all my fave artist albums with good quality ID3 tags which make organisation easy.

the sd portion i use to pack together stuff from different artists like dance singles and diy compilations. being able to just self group stuff by folder is as useful as the player tagged grouping.

tbh i prefer folders with names that let me create my own file structures.

im sure there must be a good reason for lack of memory card integration as i dont think any manufacturer has done it yet? ( awaits to be corrected )

great little player - the only thing for me is that even with my £35 Shure headphones the sound quality isnt as good as my Sony Walkman phone.

also, grab one of these for battery life after the internal pack is dead:
advancedmp3players.co.uk/sho…tml

hi deepmenace - can you still do playlists on the music from the SD card the same as you can with the internal memory - I'm thinking of getting this & just using the 4gb for videos & the 32gb SD card for my music.

I think I read that Sandisk have got better card integration with their newer players. I guess manufacturers aren't keen because you could buy a 2GB player for £55:

play.com/Ele…tml

and add a 8GB micro SDHC card for £15:

play.com/Mob…tml

and you've got a 10 GB for around 70 English pounds...but this would undercut the players further up the range:

You have good taste  Probably THE most underrated yet best alternative rock bands out of Manchester. Was fortunate to see them on several occasions when they reformed before they sadly split again. If you haven't already got it, I recommend Mark Burgess's Book "View From a Hill" his autobiography released a couple of months ago.

The Cowon D2 has memory card integration. Even my old 1GB Medion mp3 player had this.

I can't believe they've dropped the price by a £5 from yesterday, especially after I'd ordered it. ******s!

their must be a way to make them commit to the new price.

Amazon have a "secret" 30 day price guarantee that means you should get the difference back. Not sure about the details though but I'm sure one of the posters here is better informed than I am. (Help please!).

EDIT: Looking on the MSE forums and it seems that Amazon ended this policy at the beginning of this month

I bought this in June from amazon and worked well for 2 months before i also got the "white screen of death"!! I already had the latest firmware, came with the phone. Just contacted creative today, hope they'll replace it :x

UPDATE: Good news, if you get this fault creative will repair/replace it. But they do insist on proof of purchase. I dont have my original invoice from amazon, but i rang amazon and they'll be sending me an invoice by post. Moral of the story - keep your receipt if you buy one of these from anywhere else besides amazon

asked amazon if they will match the new price as i placed my order last night:
