Credit Report with Free £6.50 Cashback Offer

Hi All,

Not sure if this is classed as a deal or a freebie but I chose deal as you are getting a credit report deal.

I found this on MSE:

What's the deal?

Credit reference agencies are very keen to sign us up for a year's subscription of their, mostly irrelevant, credit monitoring services. Not surprising as they charge £80+ a year. So to sweeten the deal they like to entice people with a 'free month's trial'.

Yet this provides a loophole allowing you to see your credit reference files online for free. So sign up to the month's trial, check your info, then cancel. Even better, at the moment cashback sites will pay 'new customers' (those who haven't done this before) up to £6.50 for getting the trial - so you can check your file and be paid to do so!

What to do to get the cash

1. Sign up through Quidco (search for "creditexpert")

2. View your file online. Then sign up, enter your card details and view your file at no cost (either instantly or after they've sent a passcode).

3. Cancel the subscription. Now cancel the subscription by calling 0800 656 9000 and selecting option 4. You are signing up to a direct debit so even though they allow 30 days, I'd do this straight away. Leave it a month and you may forget and be charged for the next month.

4. Wait for the cashback. The £6.50 should appear on your cashback account within a couple of days.

Worth a look for £6.50 I think.....

Seems to me that some people dont like something for nothing? How can you vote a free credit report and free cashback cold?

Am I missing something?

Nothing is normally for nothing - Because unless you are careful, when you claim your 'FREE' report you are also signing up to pay £6.99 a month for ever more and a day. So do remember to cancel within 30 days. Whether you still get your quidco payment if you cancel, I do not know?

I have not voted but did this last time it was about ( or has it just been about for ages? ) i did not get the quidco ( and quidco would NOT accept any "queries" about it ) and despite cancelling the membership before the end of the free trial they still took a monthly payment ( which I eventually got refunded )

Yeah, I'm not sure what the catch is about this one, but I've always thought there must be a pretty big catch somewhere... It's one of those things that looks too good to be true.

I went for this a while ago & got £5 Quidco too.. (No enquiries accepted if Quidco doesnt track).

You need to provide credit card details to avail this offer and remember to cancel before the free period (One quick free phone call & no questions asked).

I took up this offer about a year ago and they continued to charge me each and every month despite me ringing up each and every month. Now a year down I have finally got it cancelled and they offered a £20 refund.

BAD BAD company

Have tried this deal earlier and my cash back didnt get tracked. I ended up paying two months subscription ... what a waste. Voted COLD.
