England vs New Zealand will be shown free on Channel 4 this Sunday, July 14.

Sky will make the ICC Cricket World Cup final available on free-to-air television should England make it to the showpiece event at Lord’s.

England beat New Zealand to secure a place in Thursday's semi-final and are now looking to reach a first World Cup final since 1992.

It would be the first time since 1979 that England have reached the final on home soil, and Sky will ensure as wide an audience as possible is able to watch the game should England qualify.

By which time it's too late.

Very people will care - and this is what happens when a sport drops behind a pay wall.

Fully agree with you there - whilst ECB have got loads of cash because of the deal with Sky but at the same time the payWall and a rather steep one has ensured that the viewership and hence the reach of the game has dwindled massively - to a point where cricket in this country is struggling for its mere existence - how on earth a marquee event like the world cup have average viewership of only 500k - its just not right.

I mean, I don't care about rounders, but how are they making this free? Free if you have a sky box or a virgin box? Or freeview?

Anyway, kudos to sky for killing off the game.
Chanel 4 would be the first option, but they also have the Grand Prix on. So maybe BBC and Chanel 4: or More4.

England beat New Zealand by 119 runs on Wednesday to reach the World Cup semi-finalsThe Cricket World Cup final will be broadcast on free-to-air television in the UK if England are in it.

Sky Sports said they would show the event live, although they have not yet revealed which channel it will be on.

There are also TV highlights on Channel 4, while there will be Test Match Special radio commentary, plus clips on the BBC Sport website and app.

Hosts England beat New Zealand on Wednesday to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1992.

The final is on Sunday, 14 July at Lord's on a bumper day for British sport which also features the Wimbledon men's final and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

BBC sports editor Dan Roan said Sky were also in talks with Channel 4 over what would be an "unprecedented agreement".

"That would see the final being shown live via Channel 4, if England make the final, as well as on Sky's own YouTube channel and their TV channels," he added.

"A potential deal is complicated by Channel 4 having the live rights to the British Grand Prix on that Sunday - the only race they can show live in the season.

"But they do have their other free-to-air platform, More4, as an option.

"No agreement has been reached yet, but it is a distinct possibility."

Sky chief executive Stephen van Rooyen said their aim had always been "to celebrate what could be a 'once in a generation' moment of a home team in a big final on home soil".

"So, if England reach the final, we will make the match available to everyone so the whole country can be part of a rare and special big sporting moment," he added.

BT Sport showed football's Champions League final in June for free on YouTube and its app, and said 11.3m viewers saw Liverpool's victory over Tottenham.

“Should England make it to the Finals “ Sky know it very well then, it’s highly unlikely, looking at the recent sporting events.
Clever ploy to get this deal hit the burners
Edited by: "savvyB" 5th Jul
Not really a deal yet until England qualify.
I quite happily pay to watch it on Sky as the terrestrial channels treated Cricket as an inconvenience. Cutting away for the 4.30 at Haydock or going straight to Hollyoaks as soon as the final ball had been bowled. Sky’s coverage is a thing of beauty, great commentators with great insights.
So glad you included this pointless spiel in your post ...Sky's cricket coverage began in 1990 with the first-ever ball-by-ball coverage of an overseas tour of West Indies. Over three decades Sky Sports has developed increasingly innovative and engaging coverage and invested more than £2bn in the sport helping drive better facilities, coaching and central contracts across the men's and women's game.....whilst at the same time depriving millions more cricket fans who would like to watch, but can't afford the exorbitant fees you charge.

Well, yes, it is a double-edged sword. No doubt Sky’s coverage has been excellent and the money they have given back to the game...but at what cost? Cricket is no longer in the forefront of the public consciousness as it was in the past. Would it even make the front pages if England won the cup? This doesn’t bode well for the future, especially for Test cricket. As you say, terrestrial coverage did have it’s annoying quirks, but overall it was pretty good for the time. I seem to remember Channel 4 did well when screening that memorable 2005 Ashes series and they pulled in 8 million viewers.
Not a single person has mentioned anything about the cricket world Cup in my taxi and yet we are hosting the blooming thing! Not a fan myself but wholeheartedly agree with comments regards pay walls ruining it, same with F1, Golf, Boxing etc

Surely the easiest and most likely option for Sky is just to put it on Pick TV, their free-to-air channel.
Some international men's and women's cricket is coming back to the Beeb from next year: BBC to broadcast live TV coverage of English international and domestic cricket - bbc.co.uk/spo…556
Give them batting 2nd and then face the reality
A lot of sports have taken the sky money and are rapidly disappearing up their own exhaust pipes, no pun intended f1.
Does anybody know if there are any big screens in London showing live cricket world cup final match?

yes that's what I thought, since Pick TV is probably on every platform for TV.
We just need to get past those cheating Aussies first. They have beaten us twice in a row now and finished above us in the group stages so it's not a foregone conclusion. Hopefully we will win the toss and bat first because in the 3 matches England have lost in this world cup, all 3 were when we batted second.

found the thread and can't believe the mods have let this one slip considering this was created at least 4/5 days before the other thread! the mods usually delete my duplicate posts when I create one by mistake only after an hour or so...

Yeah just realised that. One of the pepper "experts" replied back to me saying my deal should be deleted instead as that was created AFTER England beat Australia
England........2019 Cricket World Cup Champions !! Sounds really good to say. Tied with New Zealand after 50 overs, tied after the Super Over and we win on a technicality of having scored more boundaries. The most incredible and most exciting cricket match I have ever watched. Well done boys. Lady luck was definitely on our side but you deserve all the accolades you are going to get.
